One of the only drinks they don’t let you sample, this oyster stout is something else man. It’s rich and heady, with a smokey (almost meaty) flavour that’s pretty crazy. Then comes undertones of a light brininess, which I guess is why it’s called oyster stout.

It is a lot to handle, so I’d share this if I were to get it again.

Tried the burger, truffle fries, tomyum pasta and mantous with chilli crab dip. The tomyum pasta got rave reviews all around the table and the chilli crab dip served with fried mantous was really legit with a solid spicy kick. (Just look at the chilli sitting in the dip.)

There’s also a good selection of craft beers on tap. If you can’t decide, the staff are friendly and would be happy to recommend one based on your preferences. I had an apple crumble cider that was really delicious. Would definitely be back to try the other items on the food menu cos they all sound very promising!

You wouldn't expect it, but walk up the stairs inside of iconic British pub Penny Black and you'll find yourself in a wholly different world. BeGIN is the latest speakeasy-style bar to hit town, featuring a very chic industrial interior, neon lights and a gin-focused drinks menu.

Matcha lovers might probably dig the Yukie - a citrusy gin cocktail that's full-on with matcha flavour and finished with creamy egg white foam as well as a dusting of matcha powder over half the glass. I found it too sweet and at odds with the British Indian small plates served there.

So 1st order of returning back to Singapore is to have a round of cocktails in this hidden bar, whereby you literally had to ring to enter. The setup is dark, but inviting with lush seats and a bar table. Small but absolutely cosy.

Before you start, you’re being served with a complimentary coffee alcohol shot. That was yummy; dark, velvety and chocolatey.

Each drink is stunning, which each alcohol base shine brightly, unmasked. Whiskey based is very smokey, while the reserved Gin and Tonic is very refreshing as they made their tonic water by themselves, and before serving they lightly smoked the drink, making it very refreshing, opening up the taste palette.

But my personal favourite (last picture) is the “midnight in Paris”. Sweet, foamy and gentle, it feels like a drink to have looking at the Eiffel Tower, in its splendid at night.

I’ll definitely come back for more, because of the knowledgeable and friendly, and most definitely warm staff who gave use another ending shot of champagne cocktail (on the house). Making this visit like visiting an old friend at their humble home.

Happy Hour: happy TGIF everyone, in case you don't already know. Each glass of this baby (whiskey sour) is ONLY at $10/gls. And don't worry, there are other housepour and cocktails, for you to choose from. And if you spend $50 at Red Tail, you get an entry into Zouk.
The bartender was lovely that night, as we drink our night away, the glass got stronger, and definitely more yummier. Hint of sour and sweet blended well into the whiskey, this is definitely a ladies drink.

In my case, the taps board at @freehousesg where 16 taps of good craft beer in various styles to satiate you. If you’re lucky, you’ll find that symbiotic craft relationship between you and the bartender; if so, you’ll never have that “which beer” dilemma, you just close your eyes and it will be alright.

Warm cashew milk chai spiked with Old Monk rum, served in the cutest little clay cup. I am completely, utterly sold. This is a mindblowingly delicious drink, especially if you’re a fan of the Indian tea.

TGIF!! Had a great week and been to great places. One place worth mentioning would be this! Free martinis and margaritas for ladies every Wednesday! Love the vibe, the crowd, the music and definitely the free drinks too! If you're working in the CBD and looking for a place to unwind, should totally check this out on Wednesday nights with your girlfriends! 🍸🍸
