Also known as Volcano Tofu, this dish came steaming hot!! The tofu was silky smooth and had a melt in your mouth texture. The sauce was flavourful and had bits of minced meat and seaweed. This is one of their signature dishes and a definite must order when you’re here!
You Kee XO is a famous restaurant in JB and this is their first branch in Singapore. While I’ve never tried their original branch in JB, the food here was really really good! They specialize in roast meat and they offer a platter of 3 of their classic roasts — Crystal BBQ Pork Belly “Char Siew”, XO Signature Roast Duck and Traditional Roasted Pork Belly “Siu Yuk”. This platter comes in 3 sizes: $23.80 (for 2 pax), $33.80 (4 pax) and $43.80 (6 pax).
Hands down the highlight of this platter was the char siew! 😍It was perfectly charred and caramelised, and had a very chewy and buttery texture. The siu yuk was fatty, fragrant and crispy. The roast duck was really tender and had a crispy skin.
This was overall one of the best roast meat I’ve ever had!! So so happy to have dined here! Plus the service here is really good! They even offered us a complimentary green bean soup to end our meal 😊😋👍🏼
Putien’s Oyster Festival is back! They have an ongoing promotion now - 2 oyster dishes for $33.80. We tried their signature fried oysters and it was really yummy! I like how the dish is not too oily, and the oysters were plump and fresh! It goes really well with their signature Spice Mum chilli. It’s a little pricey at $17.90 compared to those sold at Hawker centres, but the quality and freshness of the oysters here makes up for it. 👍🏼
The dim sum here is sooo good and affordable!! I think I know where to go for all my dim sum cravings in the future 😊 Located at the newly renovated Marine Parade Food Centre, this humble store serves a variety of yummy dim sum! Must tries are the handmade Fresh Shrimp Chee Cheong Fun ($3.60), Crystal Dumplings ($3.60) and Hakka Yong Tau Foo ($3.80) 😍 The prices are really affordable too! We only paid around $30 for 4 of us (and we were really satisfied!)
Before I talk about the food, let me rave about the decor of this outlet! This outlet was so pink and pretty, and apparently it was inspired by cherry blossoms! I really enjoy eating at well-decorated restaurants, because it really contributes to the entire dining experience! 🌸
Moving on to the food, we ordered their signature collagen and mala soup base! The collagen broth was really silky and nourishing. We also enjoyed their Ebiko Prawn Paste, Fried Beancurd Skin and Pork and Chives Dumpling! All were amazing 😋 We ordered Red Garoupa as well, which was really fresh and tender! We ended the meal with a refreshing yuzu smoothie! Really good meal 😊
This is a must try!! Almost every table ordered this dish 😋 It is a delicious mix of deep-fried kangkong (reminds me of tempura!), shredded vegetables, cuttlefish in rojak sauce. The portion was heaping as well! We ordered a medium and it was more than enough for a party of 6. Do order this!
Pork ribs cooked in Ribena?? As eyebrow-raising as this dish may sound, it tastes a lot better than imagined! The sweetness of blackcurrant complements the pork ribs well and it’s a pity this isn’t sold at more places. The sticky, sweet marinate is the selling point of this dish. The pork ribs itself were very tender. Would definitely come back again to try it!
Really authentic Malaysian Hokkien Mee! Egg noodles tossed in black sauce with prawns, pork and vegetables. Really liked the taste of the noodles itself (without the artificial taste one would usually associate with yellow noodles). The dish tastes exactly like the Hokkien Mee I would have in Malaysia (which is no surprise since the owner is Malaysian!) The portion was heaping and it was really worth it for $12!
