Setting the bars high with their roasts and mains, I was worried that their sides at Ho Fook Hei will pale in comparison. Thankfully, my worries were uncalled for. 💕

These crispy Hei Zor ($7.80) are bound to delight you with its full-blown savoury flavours with 5-spice seasoning 😋, whose taste profile completely levelled up when eaten with the accompanying sweet dipping sauce. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Moist and soft pork 🐷 & prawn 🦐 filling with finely diced carrots 🥕, water chestnuts, onion & spring onion, encased by a thin layer of beancurd skin fried to the perfect golden brown & crisp, just who can resist these gems? 🤤🤤🤤 I dare say you’d be just like me - craving for more of these after popping one into your mouth, because it’s so good that one is barely enough! ❤

My BIL had recommended me this gelateria prior to my visit & i must say that it certainly lived up to my expectations! 💯 Both their unique & classic flavours are all pretty outstanding - definitely more than what you'd expect from a neighbourhood ice cream parlour! 😊

You're guaranteed a freshly handmade scoop of goodness as their gelatos are made entirely in-house with ingredients made from scratch. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 No compromise on quality & to reduce carbon footprint, they use reusable metal spoons instead of disposable ones for sampling! 🌍

My favourite flavour has got to be their Whisky & Salted Pecan Brittle! ❤❤❤ I'm usually not a fan of alcohol but this one really GOT ME! The slight alcoholic kick perfectly mellowed the sweetness of the aromatic vanilla base. 👍🏻 This is further complemented by the slightly salty pecan brittle that rendered a nice nutty flavour 🥜 & a good crunch! The result is a harmonious blend that is so creamy & luscious! 🤤🤤🤤

I also had the Mixed Berries, a tangy & refreshing blend of strawberries 🍓, raspberries & blueberries that will leave you wanting more. Look at the vibrancy that it brings - I'm so drawn to it! 😍😍😍 Reasonably priced at $8.40 for premium double scoops (+ $0.50 cone), this would surely make a nice indulgent treat on a sunny day! ✔

This is my usual eat at Food Junction becuz I simply like variety in my bowl! 😍😍😍 Having the option to select 7 (or more) ingredients to build my ideal bowl is usually not an issue cuz the boring me always order the same stuff. 😂 But 2 of my usual 料 weren’t available so I was thrown off guard - ultimate dilemma! 😅😅😅

Still managed to build a decent bowl with silky tanghoon, 2 bunches of greens 🥬 (Chinese Spinach & Ceylon Spinach), firm beancurd, springy fishcake, savoury ngoh hiang, a hard-boiled egg 🥚& spoonfuls of nutty soy beans! 😋😋😋

No vibrant tomatoes 🍅 (all unripe) & brinjal 🍆 (soaked in oil) to brighten up the bowl but at $4.90, this sure made a FOOfilling bowl! ✔

Tucked away in the friendly neighbourhood of Ang Mo Kio is OCD Café, a relatively new café open since Mar19, taking over Twenty Grammes’ spot. 😊 Steering away from the flashy or over-the-top desserts that are in trend now, this café has decided to keep it down-to-earth & focus on serving quality ice cream & waffles with injection of some novelty ❤, which I applaud! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Riding on the truffle craze, they have created the heavenly Truffle Waffle ($8), which is definitely worth a try! 💕 REAL Italian black truffles are used (which explains the black specks in the waffle)! 😍😍😍 Needless to say, the earthy flavours of the truffles does come through pretty strong & the aroma was irresistible! 🤤

Even though I would have preferred more red beans for the intense bite (cuz I love to munch 🐷), the reduced sugar level allowed me to finish up the entire bowl effortlessly! ✔

If you’re looking for an icy cold treat to combat the sweltering heat, go for the classic Mango Sago with Pomelo. 🥭 With a generous amount of ripe mangoes used, you will be delighted with the natural sweetness of this tropical fruit in this dessert, well-balanced with just a right amount of evaporated milk - not too diluted nor thick. 🤤🤤🤤 The slightly astringent pomelo sacs also balanced the overall taste profile, ensuring that the intense sweetness of those juicy mango cubes would not get too overpowering. 👌🏻

Where do you usually go for your Bak Kut Teh fix? Tried the Old Street Bak Kut Teh but did not find it any impressive. What impressed me though was their YOUtiao! 🤤🤤🤤

Beautifully fried to the perfect golden brown, these Fried Dough Sticks ($2.20 per basket) are then cut into bite-sized for perfect dipping into their Pork Ribs Soup ($8.60)! 😍😍😍 They act as perfect sponges to soak up the peppery broth, releasing that nice savoury fragrance when you bite into it. 💕

Most importantly, I liked that it was not too greasy so it doesn’t feel too heavy on the palate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Just have a spoonful of that peppery broth & you’re all ready to go again with all that dipping! 😋

With an extensive menu at @kyoajisg, you’d be spoilt for choice with their wide range of food items from their Sushi Bar as well as Hot Kitchen! 💯 Of course, sushi is a must-have at Japanese restaurants so here’s what we tried:

🔹️Gyuniku Aburi Maki (Seared Beef Rolls, $30++): I would coin this a premium beef rice burger. 💕 A tender slice of nicely-torched beef 🐄 lay elegantly atop a bed of hand-pressed sushi rice made with fluffy Japanese grains 🍙, with more beef & pickles/onions (that reminds me of Mac’s cheeseburger 🤤) within. Everything just comes together nicely to complete the overall taste profile on a tasteful note. ✔

🔹️Shiro Maguro Aburi Maki (Seared White Tuna Roll, $22++): similar to the above, this is topped with a slice of nicely-seared white tuna 🐟 that has a rich buttery taste, accompanied by a tiny bunch of tobiko which releases its umami when you bite into these poppin’ goodness. 🥰 With the fluffy Jap sushi rice encasing crunchy cucumbers, tangy pickles & mock crabmeat, this was quite a classic. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I guess most of you must be familiar with @jollibean_sg, almost a household name now! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Newly opened at B2 of The Seletar Mall is its first franchise outlet but it is in no way different from the other outlets that consistently serve up satisfying snacks of good quality. ✔

Those who know me well will know that I’m nuts about nuts 🥜 & the peanut pancake served by Jollibean easily makes it into one of my favourites for pancakes! 💕

For variety, I sometimes go for their 6 in 1 Mini Rolls ($2.80-$3) for sharing with my family & I get the added benefit of trying different flavours (peanut, red bean & cheese)! 😉 I especially love their peanut pancakes ❤❤❤, where their aromatic peanut butter spread combines the nice crunch of an abundance of peanuts bits & the luscious creamy texture of a creamy PB - the best of both worlds! ✌🏻

Silky smooth beancurd is always enjoyable 💯 & I simply love their Almond Soy Pudding ($2.50), a luxe & firmer version of the classic beancurd. 👍🏻 Liked that I do not get the unpleasant powdery mouthfeel of the almond powder used but the rich flavours of the almond came through pretty strong. 😋😋😋

As a fan of matcha, I went for their Jspecial to chase away the heat! 💚💚💚 Featuring matcha soy blended topped with a scoop of azuki red beans, give it a good stir & you’re in for a sweet treat! 🥰 The matcha flavour was quite light IMO so it doesn’t overpower the soy fragrance, while the sweet red beans balances the slight astringent taste that matcha brings. 👌🏻

I really love the breads here at Mama Patissarie! 💯 Baked freshly in-house daily, their breads are super soft & fluffy but substantial (not the airy fairy kind)! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 They also have eggless & milkless versions for some breads to cater to your special dietary needs 😊

My gigantic fluffy loaf (these 2quarters makes half the loaf) was loaded with crushed walnuts bits & dried raisins 😍😍😍, imparting a nice nutty & sweet fruity flavours to the wholemeal bread! 💕 This soft stretchy bread certainly made a wholesome breakfast for me! 😋

Fans of matcha do not have to worry about having disappointing diluted drinks here at Nana’s GREEN Tea. 👌🏻 Their drinks are made with uniquely-blended quality matcha green tea that boasts of irresistible aroma & rich taste. 💚💚💚 Even though using 100% Uji tea leaves translates to higher costs, there is no compromise here! 💯

There are lots of variety here - matcha latte base (matcha with milk), Houjicha latte base (roasted green tea with milk) Matcha base (matcha with water/soda), Matcha Latte Frappe base, or even your classic pot of hot/cold brew. 👏🏻 So spoilt for choice! Their smooth yet intense matcha flavour is always a winner for me. 😍😍😍

Matcha Shiratama Azuki Latte ($9.10) features an intense cup of creamy & luscious matcha latte ✔, topped with a scoop of sweet red bean paste, chewy mocha balls & whipped cream. 💚 A classic combination, this definitely makes a satisfying cup! 😋

Do not belittle that unassuming cup of Matcha Soft Serve Latte ($8) in the background - the vanilla soft serve 🍦 lends its sweetness & creamy texture to the matcha drink when melted, making the blend a pure enjoyment! 👍🏻👍🏻😊

My best bet would be on the Black Sesame Shiratama Frappe ($9.10) 💕, where the scoop of Black Sesame ice cream emerged as the black horse. 👑 ⭐ The goma was extremely rich & intense with a luscious mouthfeel, & its good quality is exemplified from its slow rate of melting! Definitely a hit for me! ❤❤❤

I’ve grown up eating this Yu Kee (友记) DUCK Rice from this Kim San Leng coffee shop at Bishan. ✔ While it still remains a decent plate, it does not seem to be as good as what I remembered it to be. 🤔

Their Specialty Duck Rice ($4) features some tender duck meats 🦆🦆🦆 laid atop a bed of fragrant yam rice, accompanied by cucumbers, beancurd, braised egg & braised peanuts. The yam rice was really soft, fluffy & savoury - so good on its own! 😋😋😋 I thought there used to be yam cubes in there but there was none in my share, which I left me slightly disappointed. 😔 While they could be more generous with their meats, I must say that they were very well-handled - succulent with no gamey taste at all! 💕

Absolutely love their secret traditional braised sauce doused over the duck meat & yam rice! ❤❤❤ Another worthy mention is their chilli sauce - a winner from the incorporation of ikan bilis which packs a punch of savoury goodness & aroma! 🌶 Even if you can’t handle spice well, the heat level is pretty manageable. 👌🏻

The side of firm beancurd, sweet braised peanuts 🥜, half a braised egg 🍳 & crunchy cucumbers 🥒 added some layering of taste & textures to the already flavourful plate. 😋 The soup that carries a tinge of herbal taste complements the plate of rice really nicely & helps to cleanse your palate. 👍🏻

This may not be the best plate of duck rice in Singapore but it definitely was a plate of nostalgia. 🥰
