The variety of dishes here at Babas Peranakan is quite limited compared to a regular chap chye png stall but that is only because one person is cooking in this space constrained kitchen.

However, you can be assured of the consistency and quality of the food delivered.

I ordered a plate of rice and picked chicken curry, bitter gourd yong tau fu and chap chye. I also asked for curry sauce to be splashed over the rice.

There are pinches of minced pork, pork slices, pig's liver, pig's intestines and pieces of .youtiao in my bowl of mixed pork porridge ($4).

It skipped my mind to request to crack an egg in, for an additional 30¢. Anywhere else would have asked for at least 50¢!

The consistency is a little runny. Perhaps, adding an egg would make the texture creamier.

Taste wise, the seasoning is on the lighter side but there is nothing that a little soy sauce and pepper cannot fix.

I like mine soggy and wet. There’s more prawns underneath and sotong tentacles but no pork belly and no pork lard. :( Chili is umami and good on its own but it steals the limelight from the noodles.

I ordered the soy sauce chicken noodle with added char siew ($5). My order came with a generous mound of thin noodles, a chicken wing and a portion of well-roasted char siew.

What makes Fatty Ox's soy sauce chicken stand out is their ginger and scallion oil dressing which is not found in the other stalls. The succulent chicken wing is flavorful with a slight hint of Chinese herbs.

I find their char siew more impressive than the chicken. It comes nicely caramelized with the charred exterior I was looking for while the ratio of fat and meat gave it that heavenly texture.
