Restaurant was a little old but nostalgic. I couldn’t really put my finger on this place as some of the items were a hit but others, a miss. We loved the laksa, Siew Mai, harkao, and some of their fried prawn dishes. But other items such as their Xiaolong baos and salted egg yolk fish skin were not that great. However, it’s a great place if you love variety (they have a buffet line with other food items such as meesua, fried chicken wings, gelato, bubble milk tea etc). Dim sum items do take a little long to arrive so do order more at the first round!

Boon tong Keng brings back childhood memories of delicious dinners with the family. The rice here although small in portion, is fragrant and not too oily. I could easily eat 2 bowls on my own!

Choose between mee pok or meekia. The meats are on the fattier side. Charsiew was roasted till the skin was caramelised. Siew yoke skin was crispy too. Food here is fatty, sinful, and oily. With just the nice kick of pepper to break a sweat. Pork ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. A must order is the pigs trotter, which is amazing with the red chilli sauce. A-one specialises in claypot items (mostly porridge with some frog leg dishes). I loved how generous they were with the ingredients! It was really nice to share the various porridges they have with a big group of people. Especially liked the ones with Century egg, salted egg, scallop, tobiko roe, and shredded chicken. However, the rice in the porridge was not completely melted and disintegrated like gooey Cantonese chok, which was quite a bummer. absolutely loved the soup here and I must say it was heaps better than the soup from a certain eating place which as the word spoon in their name. We had the mushroom soup and chicken potato soup which were ultra comforting and delicious. For the popiah, we each had the sweet Thai chicken and sesame chicken, both of which were a nice innovative twist to your regular popiah and lovely to have. The genmaicha which comes with the set was also yummy and comforting, loved the roasted rice bits in the tea which gave it an aromatic flavour. Their specialty dishes include fried Heng Hwa bee Hoon, mazu mee sua and deep fried pork trotters. Loved how the deep fried pork trotters were salty and crispy on the outside but soft and gelatinous on the inside. However, prices here are on the high side so do come in when you have a buck to spare!

Although some people may find pencai one dimensional as it consists of various ingredients soaked in the same sauce, every ingredient has its own unique flavour. I loved the scallops in particular, as they fell apart with the touch of my chopsticks.

☺️ Loved the fresh vegetables in this dish and it’s one of the better yusheng I have eaten this Chinese New Year. The best part were definitely the crispy crackers! However, do take note they only sell CNY set meals during this period and prices can get a little steep.

While they are funny, they don’t joke around when it comes to their food. The siew yoke (roasted pork) was roasted to perfection, with crispy crackling pork skin that will send you to heaven. Char siew had just the right balance of sweetness, savouriness, and fat. Egg was tasty with a gooey center. Absolutely delicious and will come back again!
