A holy matrimony of tuna and beef tongue.

Gotta admit that I was skeptical at first. But immediately after I sank my teeth in, I was in food heaven. The Lingua di Manzo Tonnato ($18++) is an explosion of umami flavours driven by the braised beef tongue, the tuna mayonnaise and the lovely onion marmalade.

This is a definite must-have.


Finally got to try Scaled and I’m impressed.

Tried a couple of dishes at Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong and all of them were hits in my book. This pan seared sea bass was beautifully cooked with a crisp skin while the flesh is delicate. It comes with a side of pickled mussels that I consider adventurous but has a great payoff in terms of flavour and texture. Mix it all with the roasted pepper purée and you’ll be left with an empty plate licked clean.

Also, Burpple Beyond is available here, offering 1-for-1 for their pastas and big plates. Amazing value considering it’s all quality seafood!


Definitely one of my favourite pastas!

If you had to order one pasta at Pasta Bar, it’ll be the tortelli. These hefty pillows were decadent to say the least. Each tortelli was stuffed with a generous amount of pumpkin and amaretti filling. The pasta was doused in a beautiful sage butter sauce that made each bite of the pasta most gratifying.

When we first ordered the dish at 8pm, we were informed that the kitchen had just served its last portion and that it was sold out. I was utterly devastated but by some wicked magic, the waiter returned to inform us that there were still two portions left. Thank goodness for us! My advice would be to try and reserve the pasta when you book a table? Or come earlier to avoid disappointment.


Had a great dinner at Sideways located at Jalan Besar.

The restaurant’s listed on Burpple Beyond so I had to give the 1-for-1 three-course set meal (two set meals for the price of ~$49++) a try which includes a small plate appetiser, a main and a dessert.

There’s quite an extensive list for the appetisers and mains but only one option for dessert which was their house made tiramisu. But I loved the tiramisu so it’s all good there. There’s also a good variety of cocktails and beers to go with the food.

For my appetiser, I opted for the “stairway to heaven” medium rare ribeye steak. It was tender, well-seasoned which was great for such an affordable price. For my main, I chose the smoked pork belly. It came with sides of artichoke and avocado tapenade which were delicious but the pork was a tad tougher than what I would have liked. My fellow diner’s blackened barramundi was excellent so you might wanna consider that instead!

Overall, I would definitely come back to try more dishes as well as the brunch menu! :D


One of my new favourite places!

I spent Valentine’s Day dinner at The Gyu Bar and I was amazed at the food and the service offered! I opted for the chef’s omakase ($138++) which was described in the menu as a 10-course gastronomical journey. Well, the meal really lived up to its description as each course was a marvel of its own, and a story to tell as the chefs meticulously tell us about each dish and its origins. There were ooh’s and ahh’s aplenty as we tried the various cuts of beef that melted in the mouth.

$138++ for 10 courses at this level of quality, culinary expertise and service is hard to come by! Can’t wait to come back!

A party in your mouth.

Not many things come close when you pop a Burnt Ends’ “steak frites” in your mouth. The meat and fat of the steak tartare will melt in your mouth as the caviar helps to enrich the flavour of the beef. The fried potato base helps to round up everything together. It’s not typically on the menu but available at special request.


[ONE WEEK ONLY] An unforgettable dinner only made possible with a sick collaboration between NAMI and Osaka Cocina Nikkei from Peru.

Since my visit to South America, I’ve been wondering when will I ever get to try Nikkei cuisine again. Nikkei is now synonymous with a fusion between Peruvian ingredients and Japanese cuisine. So when I found out that NAMI was having a Nikkei pop-up, I just had to be there.

“The Nikkei Experience” is a 7-course dinner tasting menu going at $188++. The price may seem a bit steep but trust me, it’s worth it. I’ve never had a dinner that was so experiential and so ridiculously good. My favourites included;
▪️the Inka Nigiri Duo, a tuna tataki topped with a unique but absolutely delicious tiger’s milk chili sauce and a soy & pisco braised pork jowl;
▪️tako anticucho, charcoal grilled octopus with Nikkei chimichurri and limo chili pepper;
▪️nitsuke criollo, a 40-hour, 70-degree braised boneless short ribs doused in “lomo saltado” bbq sauce, kabocha yuzukosho and crispy quinoa; and
▪️suspiro Perú, an amazing textured soursop sorbet with a tantalising lemongrass dulce de leche, a wonderful matcha meringue on a bed of Amazonian chocolate crumbs. This dessert is really of the next level!

All in all, I think this is the dinner to beat for the year 2019. But be fast! This pop-up will only available for dinners till 27 January!
