Burpple Beyond

When Burpplebeyond brings you to places - here an alfresco dining pizza joint right beside Sarnies serves sourdough carbs (pizza and pastas) with pronounced flavors. Our vegetarian pizza had a strong hand of dukka that paired well with the mild cheese used. I also wondered if the plates of pizza crusts on our neighbouring tables were because diners were having almost 1 pizza each individually. I found the crust very substantial and probably a tweaked recipe of airy, crisp crust might do the trick.

I actually love how the lesser known pasta variants here, ie the caserecci we had, are sourdough pastas. With the perception that they are easier for digestion it was easy to polish the tasty plate of pasta clean.

Sourdough Banh Mi is a thing here - I was right (with reference to my post on Yeast Side) and I am glad to report that they are great, at La Saigon it is always sweetened with burpplebeyond.

For the sourdough advocates, having sourdough Banh Mi made this substantial and I loved the generous Vietnamese pickled slaw with fish sauce and chicken thigh like chunks in my order. I can’t wait to be back to try to coffee!

We recently gladly welcome an additional “pair of chopsticks” at family meals for a lack better way to put it - go figure. And I thought it should be a good way to share a meal here at Offshore, where we could all get our stomachs filled with the seafood bucket on burpplebeyond.
You get to choose how the sauces you want your seafood to be done in. We got the cream seaweed and korean gochujang sauces, the former was quite a tastily ingenious option while the latter was lacklustre. I was right about the filled stomachs when we finished most of the 1 for 1 seafood buckets and enjoyed the free flow cooked food that came complimentary with the meal.
Mum said the seafood here was fresh and I thought this was a great place for the hungry and big eaters with “free flow”; while getting a crustacean meal that balanced between affordability and quality.

Back at Ambling Turtle that I discovered only because of Burpplebeyond, today we tried the above tarts and they were good. I personally preferred the tart and sweet yuzu cheese just because of the nature of the flavours, but the Pula Hitam tart stayed true to the Asian dessert with a black glutinous rice paste as filling and a layer of thickened coconut cream as a top blanket.
Do note that the one for one beverages are only available for dine in and not takeaways which I found strange considering the latter would free up space where appropriate.

You can trust PPP to serve you real coffee, I had a cuppa daily brew that was well bodied and low on acidity - went well alongside the decent Kouign Aman and pain au chocolat.

On a Friday evening this was a Burpplebeyond score. Knock knock now means fuss free hearty western dishes in a chic bright restaurant setting.
I had the winner winner chicken which was a succulent chicken thigh on a bed of mash. Together with my can of Hite, it was the casual comfy TGIF dinner you’d look for. One thing I noticed was that the mash here was more runny than other mash I’ve had but nonetheless it was tasty with bits of bacon and small potato chunks.
The fish and chips are also good, straightforward battered fish fillet with chips that were hard/impossible to “stop at one”.

I liked our ala carte order of squid over the kurobuta pork. As for the gyozas, they were good but I couldn’t guess if the chicken filling was in-house made on the most probably ordered/store bought dumpling skin.

Food came after a good 1 hour wait and the plain rice never arrived on a Saturday evening. Everyone was too hungry and angry so every dish was polished. If not for Burpplebeyond I’m pretty sure I’d be blacklisted by my friends for suggesting this place 😶😬
