This traditional fish curry with red snapper and coconut rice was pretty good - I really liked how rich and well-flavoured the curry was, and it packed a significant amount of spice (not complaining here, I love spicy food - but those who can’t tolerate spice, maybe you can consider other options). My only gripe is that the fish wasn’t in a large enough portion to match the price tag ($29) and the fish wasn’t mindblowingly soft or fresh either. Overall, a pretty good dish for sharing, but maybe not the most value for money.

We got this as a starter to share and it was pretty well done and also satisfactorily portioned. I really appreciated the unique dining concept here and the authentic recipes passed down by the owner’s mother from his time in Africa. It was refreshing having lunch in town that wasn’t a run of the mill brunch situation, along with attentive service and three floors of great ambience and decor.

Second time here and Ronin never ceases to amaze me with their fuss-free, affordable brunch offerings. Average spend per person is likely $15 or so - I ordered scrambled eggs on toast with portobello and one flat white, and it only amounted to $15.50 after GST (no service charge - bonus points). The scrambled eggs are incredibly smooth and creamy and the juicy portobello mushroom was a dream. A classic brunch spot indeed.

Walked into this hole-in-the-wall coffee space on a sweltering Saturday afternoon, and we were treated to one of the best and most unique coffee concoctions we’ve ever had, and we are pretty avid coffee drinkers. We had the weekend specials - the coffee shake and the coffee & tonic with Burpple Beyond’s 1 for 1 (+$1.50 if you redeem the weekend specials). Both coffees we had were superb! The coffee shake was unlike any other shake, there were 3 types of coffee within and it really packed a strong punch, and the coffee & tonic was modelled after a gin & tonic, with their seasonal cold brew infused with florals. The owners/staff were so warm and welcoming as well, we felt really at home. We will definitely be back for more!

The Fried Chicken & Waffle ($21) was one of the best we’ve had. The chicken was so incredibly crispy and the fried batter was very flavourful, done to a perfect golden brown. The waffle was a buttermilk waffle - soft and fragrant and it paired seamlessly with the fried chicken. The maple butter syrup on the side was so sinfully good too - we used it all up as all our efforts to resist it became futile. Will definitely be back to try their blueberry pancakes!

We had the Salmon Ochazuke and the Pulled K-Pork with Burpple’s 1 for 1. Both were pretty good - the salmon ochazuke was paired with a really nice, well-flavoured miso broth and the salmon was fresh and well-flavoured (though I wish it was a little larger). The pulled pork was soft enough and well-flavoured, with a sous-vide egg on top and soft brioche bread below. We tried their cold brew too (‘clouds in my coffee’) which was pretty good! In terms of coffee flavour, it wasn’t strong, but it was really smooth and creamy. Worth a try!

We found this small, unassuming little coffee joint tucked away near bras basah complex, near Bugis and the National Library. It was helmed by a really friendly couple, and when we took the first sip of the flat whites we ordered, we were completely blown away. The coffee taste was so so strong and rich, and the flavour was impeccable. So many flat whites I’ve had elsewhere are simply disappointing, with too much milky taste and only a light coffee flavour. The coffee here was so impressive, and we were exclaiming in awe with every sip. Will definitely be back again!

Had The Works (full breakfast) and the Wagyu beef burger here. The full breakfast was simply amazing! The two giant pieces of bacon were unlike the regular, thin bacon most brunch places provide; the bacon was incredibly thick and juicy, almost reminiscent of a tender pork chop. The scrambled eggs were perfectly well done (you can choose your type of eggs - scrambled, poached, sunny side up) and the roasted mushrooms, greens (with the mustardy avo guacamole) were all so good! I’d definitely recommend this very thoughtfully put together full breakfast. The Wagyu beef burger was not bad, but definitely not the best burger I’ve had (my standards for beef burgers are really high though). Love their strong-tasting chilli sauce which is definitely not the typical cheap fast food kind of chilli sauce many places provide. Lovely meal here, will definitely be back! 👅

Had my usual dish, the mushroom bacon carbonara, and my friend had the cereal prawn pasta. I felt that the mushroom bacon carbonara was a lot more bland that day, and lacked the powerful creamy flavour it usually has. I feel like I remember it to be better than this; not sure if it was a more bland, bad day or my tastebuds.

Second time here and I had to get this again; I love the consistency of the smashed avocado and the slightly citrused flavour. One gripe would that I really wish it came with a side (even a small one would do) of mushrooms or maybe ham/bacon, as it got a little bland towards the end with just eggs, avo and bread alone. Adding roasted mushrooms costs $5 sadly :-( this is still a great dish though! I just wish the flavours could be a little more multidimensional.

I always have to order this when I’m here, it’s so simple and good. Nicely buttered, soft grilled bread oozing with melty, chewy cheese, with a dipping sauce of tomato soup. I’d recommend getting this to share with friends as a snack, to complement your main brunch dish.
