On a quest to try all things ma la and I stumbled upon this OCK Jewel Changi exclusive flavour after my flight back. Was that a sign? I think so!

This puff really packs quite a punch. When I was buying the puff, the staff actually told me it was spicy and asked to confirm if I really wanted it. I wasn’t quite convinced that the filling would actually be spicy, but my first bite into the bright red puff proved me wrong. There’s actually some heat in the filling with a detectable ma la aroma! Not numbing, but good enough for a quick ma la fix in an portable easy-to-eat puff. The pastry is just as crisp as their regular curry puffs, although I think the puff to filling ratio is a little skewed and could do with more filling.

Sadly I didn’t manage to get my hands on the other Jewel exclusive flavour of Kaya butter so better luck next time :(

This is one for those who really can’t decide what they want. With caramelised Piedmont hazelnuts, almonds and roasted pistachios enrobed in a mixture of Swiss milk and dark chocolate, you literally get almost everything Läderach has to offer in one chocolate.

I love all the nuts, especially the caramelised hazelnuts which are sweet on the outside, but provide a nutty and slightly bitter taste when bitten into.

I like my chocolates dark, so I wish this would’ve been made with pure dark chocolate. However, the milk dark mixture makes this a pretty safe choice for most people - even those who don’t like dark chocolate.

Note that there’s no discount for buying more pieces of sweet potato. Each piece, whether you buy 1 or 10, goes for $2.90.

Ordered from K G Catering for light refreshments after a seminar session: mini croissants, chicken satay with lontong, sliced cucumber and onions, chicken siew mai, mini eclair, and watermelon/honeydew melon.

The croissants were soft, and not in a good way. They were soggy, and didn’t have any of the buttery and light texture that a croissant should. The croissants at the bottom fared slightly better as their skins were slightly more flaky, but they wouldn’t be what I’d classify as a croissant apart from the shape.

Siew mai was decent, no prawns inside but at least they were cooked through and the skin was thin and soft!

The satay was a hot favourite for sure. The chicken meat was tender and flavourful. There was lots of satay sauce provided as well, which we helped ourselves to and drenched our lontong with. The lontong was not bad, just slightly too soft and sticky, but overall still good!

The eclairs are another one that went fast, they were just regular eclairs - nothing special, but who would pass up a mini eclair?!

Pretty good catered food overall. Enough for a light lunch.

Behold the aftermath of toasting and tearing apart the Houjicha Cruffin from Bread Yard. There’s probably no way to eat this without getting down and dirty as the lava filling oozes out.

This is basically a croissant made into a muffin with a molten Houjicha interior, and a Houjicha bo lo bao-esque crust. It’s been dipped into caster sugar too.

I guess the way to eat it is to heat it up first, so that the interior gets all gooey. While we were super hyped up after smelling the Houjicha and seeing all the lava ooze out, we were disappointed with the taste. The croissant texture is on point, but the Houjicha filling was bland despite its lovely olive green colour and specks of Houjicha tea leaves. The star of the cruffin was he Houjicha crust, which really smells and tastes of Houjicha.

Would not order this again!

Before toasting and breaking it apart to reveal all the lava ooze.

Picked this up for tea time while we were having lunch at Bread Yard.

Since we’ve had chocolate tarts from Lemuel and Cake Spade the last few weeks, I’ll be using them as benchmarks. I thought this was the most balanced tart of the three, with a great tart crust and quite yummy chocolate filling.

The tart crust was thick enough, and held up well without crumbling into tons of pieces when we cut through it. The chocolate filling was a little too soft and melty (maybe we should’ve refrigerated it), but it wasn’t too sweet and went well with the tart crust. It’s worth noting that this was the cheapest out of the three at $4, and of course it’s unfair to compare their chocolate to Lemuel which is a chocolate specialist. I didn’t feel that the pistachio added much taste to it, so perhaps a stronger tasting and crunchier nut like almond might’ve been a better option?

Despite that, apart from their breads, it’s definitely worth picking up at chocolate tart from Bread Yard! Affordable and good for a dessert or tea time snack :)

One of two cupcakes as a sweet gift from a friend!

I didn’t expect to like this little treat that much but WOW. Totally didn’t expect the durian purée-filled center, which was thick creamy and luscious. Balanced pretty well with the light vanilla cupcake which was soft and moist.

I usually find cupcake icings way too sweet for my liking, and this one was no exception - ended up scraping the icing off. In all, still a really nice cupcake, especially for durian lovers :)

What a yummy treat this is. My friend knows I loooove chocolate, so he got this chocolate cupcake base speculoos cupcake for me. What I didn’t expect was the speculoos-filled center in the chocolate cupcake! I loved it!!!! The speculoos spread added extra texture to the moist, soft and chocolatey cupcake (which was already really good on its own btw).

The icing looks really pretty, like charred marshmallows that remind me of a baked Alaska. However, it was way too sweet for my liking (as most icings are for me now), so I scraped that part off.

Always biding my time to my next meal. Everything in between just serves to kill time.
