For us, these are the essentials and no visit to DTF is complete without them.

I swear that DTF secretly grows their own rice grains on some secret Shangri-la-ish mountains and they water the grains with water from the morning dew. Each rice pearl is so plump, fat and full of moisture. It's not oily, and each mouthful is just a reminder why the queue is so worth it. In fact, sometimes I suspect that I'm there for the fried rice instead of the XLB!

What stands out at Tipo is that their pasta are all handmade and infused with unique flavours such as Lemon & Pepper (I think that's what I ordered!) and Beetroot and Garlic! Also, you have the option of choosing your own toppings at just $2 or $3 each so no two visits are ever the same! The base pasta is at a wallet friendly price of $9.90 for the regular and $12 for the grande and it includes your choice of sauce as well, including pomodoro, alfredo, aglio olio and beef ragu.
.
My order (pic 1) consisted of the beef ragu sauce and the serving of the beef was really generous. The beef strands just clung to the pappardelle so I could taste the meat and flavours of my pasta in every bite. The sous vide egg was also perfectly done, and when broken, added a layer of creaminess and silkiness to the overall dish.
.
I did not get a chance to try the other combinations (my friend protected their pasta with their lives) but from what I heard, the black caviar, king oyster mushroom and sautéed prawns all added different layers of flavours to their respective orders.

There's perpetually a long queue outside so we were lucky to snag a table within 5 minutes when we decided to have an early dinner. The soup was smooth, creamy and sweet, carrying the flavours from the fish and vegetables. The fish, fried just nice. The batter wasn't too thick so it was easy to bite into and overall, it was light and crisp.

The amount of sweet sauce for the black one is just nice, not too little, not too much. It's slightly charred, giving it different layers of texture. The ratio of egg to the radish cubes is also perfect and more importantly, the serving of chye poh is generous. It also doesn't feel overly greasy and oily too, so you don't get jelak after eating it.

Was glad to stumble upon Real Food (@realfoodsg) at Orchard Central, and the Umami Mushroom Soup ($9.80) tastes real (duh), and absolutely wholesome. You can taste the chunks of white button mushroom in the soup, nutritious and full of goodness.

It comes with an abundance of seafood ingredients, including tamago, amaebi, salmon and kami, all lightly grilled and well flavoured. This is of course a new, hipster kind of Ramen, so this combination is pretty unusual. I am no Ramen expert, but the noodles tasted more like Korean Ramen then Japanese Ramen. Overall, it's an alternative combination but makes for an interesting meal. Give this a shot but don't expect something out of an Ippudo menu.
Following the footsteps of Nakhon, the dining experience is rather similar - non-airconditioned dining establishment with outdoor seating areas, non-pretentious Thai food and of course, friendly to the wallet.
.
The Pineapple Fried Rice ($6), a staple for any Thai meal was well above average. It was sweet, and salty, with ample toppings to go with it. I found the Basil Minced Beef ($8) a tad too salty for my liking though, and I will perhaps opt for the Basil Minced Chicken in future. Of course, no Thai meal is complete without Tom Yum Soup. We opted for the Red Tom Yum Soup with Prawns ($7) and the serving size was good enough for 3. The flavours were well balanced, and it was a nice dance between the two contrasting flavours of sour and spicy. Go for the Stuffed Chicken Wings too ($6), where they don't stinge on the filling and the wings are also plump and crispy.
.
The place gets crowded pretty quickly so I do recommend an early dinner, or be prepared to queue.
