We were lured to tea here because of items like ondeh ondeh, chilli crab, beef rendang with achae, Hainanese chicken rice with Mayo, etc. The food was really lousy, giving shame to Singapore’s scrumptious food offerings. There are fewer tea varieties than at other superior hotels, and none served in loose leaf firm, all in tea bags. The only good thing about the experience is the fabulous service staff.
Queued 10 minutes for breakfast, then waited 20 minutes after ordering. The scrambled egg was very good. The brioche that so many rave about is ok, but not fragrant as it would be in France. The bacon ($3 extra) was either invisible, or they just forgot about it! Would I go back? At this level of pricing, I’d rather have chicken than egg.
Excellent rendition of this dish from Marseille, although surprisingly they don’t have aioli or croutons.
Nice oasis in orchard road area, much more open than Privé opposite from the crossroads. Long menu and drinks list for a Café. The char kway teow is less good than the one at One Ninety at Four Seasons Hotel, but it’s pretty good. Friendly service staff. If you have Entertainer 1-for-1 deal, it’s excellent value. You should cross the crossroads to have a bite at Crossroads.

A hole in the wall with no proper kitchen. Yet, they produce tasty super crispy pizzas. The chicken wings are good albeit nothing special. Beers are served iced cold in bottles, towers, etc. So, while in Clarke Quay, do swerve into Verve for great pizzas, and give the nice servers the respect they deserve lest you hit a raw nerve.
Chic modern décor. The food is good, but nothing to scream about. Worse, the short menu has not changed for well over a year. Two out of four meat main dishes are deep fried. Service is friendly and polite, but mechanical. This is not a place where you can engage in a conversation with the staff. At $100-120 per pax, you are overpaying for the brand and the décor. I am not returning until the menu changes. For French/western at Dempsey, atout is much more satisfying, and there are many other options too.
