Comfort Food
Army Stew or Budae Jjigae ($39.90) was invented way back during the war period. Back then, the soldiers faced a lack of fresh produce, hence they threw stuff such as luncheon meat, ramyeon, ddeokbokki, hotdogs, kimchi, tofu into a hot pot. Little did they have know that Budae Jjigae is now a staple menu item in many Korean restaurants.

Awarded Michelin Bid Gourmand in 2018, this is one of the famous frog porridge restaurants in Geylang. Being the most convenient (nearest to Aljunied MRT) among the rest, I was slightly inclined to return back to the same place since it didn’t disappoint previously. Can’t wait to try the other two famous ones before I can really decide which’s the best.

Go for their signature Kung Pao Frog if it’s your first time here. But if you can’t take too spicy like me, the Spring Onion Frog is the next perfect choice!
The fish portion seems to have shrunk but nevertheless still fresh.
My favourite place for a reliable and affordable good fish steamboat .
You get chunky slices of yam , baby spinach, seaweed and cabbage in your steamboat .
The soup base is just so full of umami from the fried dried sole fish .
And I promise you wont feel thirsty after drinking the soup😊
Service is fast and prompt - dont expect friendly smiles though 🤣
Henghua Lor Mee (braised noodle) is a must-have for the regulars. Henghua Lor Mee is cooked in a lighter and starchier broth that’s brimming with prawns, beancurd, lean meat, clams and vegetables.

I have been wanting to try the fish soup here for the longest time (partly due to their interesting name), and i wasn't left disappointed during my recent visit. The soup was light yet flavourful while the fish slices were fresh and quite thick. An affordable & comforting option in the area if you’re looking for something lighter on the palate.
(P.S. I still don’t know why they are called Angel Horse, perhaps i should ask the stall owners next time)
Pictured: raw amberjack ($12), beef brisket ($18) and century egg ($2.50). All really good! Service was surprisingly great at this place too (mainly from the manager).
The porridge is thick and goes well with their handmade meatball 👍 this place is always crowded during evening and can be difficult to get seat for big groups.
One of its famous dish is century eggs ($3) that comes with gingers and chili at the side.
The bean sprouts was flavourful and crunchy. The noodles was cooked evenly with a feel of wok hei. However felt that it was a bit too greasy. Could not finish half of it.

Can't get enough of Ri Ji's Porridge [$3.50] earlier This Morning !! Had their Century Egg Porridge and It was relatively smooth and full bodied in flavour! Remember to add an egg as a bonus for more nutrients and for a more satisfying taste and experience!.
