The soup here is lighter than most, but the briny taste of shrimp is still evident and I like that it isn’t too oily. The pork rib prawn noodle soup ($5) is really substantial, with 2 prawns and 3 ribs. The pork is fatty but tender!

Here’s the mixed hor fun ($4.50)! The wok hei flavour is distinct, and the noodles chewy. The gravy is thick and flavourful yum. The store is generous with ingredients - this had pork, fish, squid and prawns. One of my favourites!!

This is a relatively new stall compared to the other heavy weights at this food centre, but this far surpasses Xie Kee Hokkien Mee! With noodles perfectly cooked, a flavourful broth, plenty of ingredients and chilli that packs a punch, this is definitely the Hokkien mee ($3) I’ll queue for every time 🥳🌟

My group of 4 shared two large plates ($7.50 each)! The Hokkien mee itself is cooked well with lots of gravy, but leans towards the starchy side and lacked the wok hei taste. I liked that they still provide a substantial portion of regular ingredients e.g sotong and prawn! The salted egg yolk calamari is a crowd favourite - the batter is light and crisp!! It was a very good contrast to the dense noodles. However it lacked a distinct SEY flavour, and tasted like regular calamari. I loved the belachan from the pork belly - super spicy kick and really stands out from the regular sambal they provide! The meat itself was too fatty and thinly sliced.

Probably a close contender of my favourite porridge store in Maxwell! The porridge ($3) is simmered long to give a smooth texture, but I like that the individual grains can still be felt. Major plus points that this is a very clean bowl overall - none of the usual MSG junk that leaves you super thirsty! They use sesame oil to elevate the flavour, and I personally like adding an egg (+ $0.50). The best part of it is their hand rolled meat balls, which are made from lean minced meat (no fat or cartilage included at all!!) and lightly seasoned to give a really satisfying bite!! 👍🏼🌟

Always face decision paralysis at Ghim Moh because there is so much to choose from, but this is a family favourite :-) firmer than most other places, the chwee kueh ($0.50/pc, min $2) gives a good bite! Aunty is not very generous with with her cai poh but what she lacks in quantity, she more than makes up for with quality. The pickled vegetables pack a punch, and is complemented by the chilli.

One of my favourites!! The menu underwent a revamp recently, and is now very extensive. My favourite chicken panini is now served as a set meal ($5) with fries and spiced soup. Highlight of this store is definitely the juicy grilled meat chock full of flavour!!

Thought this store looked quite promising, so I decided to try something new! The porridge ($3) is smooth and starchy, but rather salty. Was disappointed because there were only a few small pieces of minced pork!

The stall is well known for its xlb, but the 红油抽手 ($4.50 for 10) is a staple for me! The dumpling has skin soft and silky, is filled with a generous portion of tender meat and coated with heaps of vinegar and chilli oil yums

Well known & loved for its xlb, this stall is no stranger to those who frequent AV!! This is their guotie ($5 for 10) - it looks haphazardly put together, but it tastes much much better. Love how the skin is chewy and has a crispy charred surface! The meat filling is super juicy 👍🏼

Run by a friendly couple, this stall is probably comparable to the famous one in AV (but without the snaking queues)! Tried the dry dumpling noodles ($4) and was super pleased when they let me customise it with chilli oil. The noodles are of just the right thickness and bite, and not too heavy. The sauce is slightly savoury and full of minced meat! But the highlight is definitely the dumplings - although the skin is a little thick, the portion of meat is generous and flavourful with lots of spring onion!

A little bit pricey, but this bowl of cheng teng ($2.20) is chock full of goodness. Apart from the usual white fungus, ginkgo and barley, it also sea coconut, candied ginger and flour balls! Also look at how rich the soup is!! 👍🏼
