Was greeted by a scene of mainly young families with toddlers running beside or trudging along dogs excited to mingle. The mind registered, yes this definitely looks like the weekends!

Visiting Flourish Bakehouse is an ideal weekend activity to “plant” yourself on the space’s photogenic green “lawn” and chill over comforting bakes 🙌🏻

I tried the Apple turnover galette with salted caramel which had a crumbly tart like base. Then we also had the banana bread, pear cardamon and flourless chocolate cakes; each tasted lovingly baked by hand. There is also a hot food menu of grilled cheese sandwiches here.

I mean 5 cakes in a span of less than a week is no small feat?
On one of the days mum got a massive Salted Carmel Red Velvet from a trusted cake company we’ve familiarised ourselves with, post moving to the East. Chalk Farm did not disappoint with the dense red velvet sponge dyed in deep red beetroot colouring; layered with thick salted caramel cream, a great pairing in my opinion.

Out of the 2 starters, 1 side and 4 main plates we had- the favourite for me was definitely the chicken liver waffles, which I learn on YouTube 😂 its chicken liver pate is a mainstay of Cheek by Jowl and now Cheek Bistro by Chef Rishi Naleendra.
Smooth as butter yet packing all that acquired taste of liver meat; the date jam beneath went hand in hand with the strong savoury pate and sat on an almost ever- crisp waffle that was an appropriate contender against all artisan waffle places out there. #burpple #burpplesg

What this means is an attempt to maintain a vegan diet (plant based diet) which is difficult with what the F&B scene in SG has available so we give ourselves some leeway of vegetarian options when dining out.
But at wholesome savour, the vegan theme is the pride of the menu. Take this portobello burger for example, the large dark mushroom serves as the burger bun with animal free ingredients; the mycoprotien chicken (plant based meat) reminded me of unseasoned mash potatoes which complimented a pleasantly tart beetroot patty. Other delightfully ingredients included the diary free cheese which has sent me stocking up on all the dairy free cheese I’ve found on redmart because I cannot live without cheese and these are some great cheese.
Lastly the dehydrated chips will feel like tasty substitutes to your usual chips, warmly welcomed by my mum and I aka crisp lovers.
Separately we also had the zucchini carbonara with some savoury coconut bacon and a fun tasty nut sauce. Sadly I found the zucchini noodles too crunchy for my liking because I was expecting noodle texture.

It was a first for the baby lobsters doused in Mala stir fry and the standard Chinese condiments of spring onions dried chillies etc.
This dish proved to be excellent food to pair along a nice, gassy chilled glass of beer.

My second time having Leclair and these are indeed one of the best take on the elongated choux-like French pastry in Singapore. A firm puff that does not go soft (conditional on the method of storage, as the store staff poignantly informs); these were emblazoned and stuffed with a wide selection of thick flavoured fillings and prime ingredients. Ambience aside, the food here is typical great cafe fare; a few thoughtful touches include a in-house made sauce for some of the side salad, sourced bread that were most likely artisan (from croissants to the sourdough toast). While I found the bananas slightly undercooked as a personal preference, this was a benchmark for cafe French toast at at steal with #burpplebeyond.
On to the background.... Little would I have expected that the “I’ve never tasted softer, viscous cheese” (ref: my tea experience at Providore) has a cousin in OMC’s gashouse eggs!
While the candied bacon did nothing for the decadent toast with a runny egg in the middle; the different combination of cheese and egg atop good white toast was a mere delight. #burpple #sgcafefood #sgfoodie #frenchtoast
