Brioche French Toast with Burnt Bananas, Pecan, Coconut Caramel and Honeycomb
The perfect post-workout treat, the Acai Bowl at Seed & Soil is infused with a distinctive nutmeg spiced flavor, setting it apart from the more commercialized varieties in the market. It is a refreshing treat - lavish scoops of frozen puree peppered with a mix of coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds and Goji berries which add an earthy profile to the otherwise fruity flavors. Here, the fruits take a backseat, for the mix of nuts and seeds which blend seamlessly with the spiced aromas. The hole-in-the-wall vibe draws me back each time an acai craving hits, and I know with each visit an honest homely bowl awaits.
As an avid fan of dense pancakes, this one really hit the spot with its almost cake-like texture. It was thick, dense and just the right sweetness, which satisfied every bit of the carb-monster within me. I also enjoyed the slightly caramelized outer layer, which provided some variety in texture. That being said, if you are looking for fluffy japanese-style pancakes, this one's not it!
The hotcake is served with a generous amount of rum-soaked raisins and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (oh how i wish there was more of this!).
Visited after hearing of the hype surrounding their kaya pancakes and chilli crab scramble. The Chilli crab scramble earned our approval for its creative fusion of two classic dishes. It definitely enkindled notes of nostalgia, and was a dangerously addictive companion for the bed of rice underneath!
Also ordered their ig-famous kaya pancakes! As a fan of kaya, I enjoyed the thick kaya cream reduction, which reminded me of a union of ondeh-ondeh and caramel. However, I do wish that the pancakes were fluffier, as they felt a little flat, which a pity as the kaya was executed really well.
