💸 Kaya Butter Toast (2 slices): $1.40
💸 Soft-boiled Eggs (2 eggs): $1.40

Weekend calls for a good local breakfast at Heap Seng Leong with the family! Their charcoal-grilled toast is pretty good, soft and crispy🍞. The cold butter was also a pretty thick slab, making it super satisfying to bite into🧈. However we felt that their kaya is not as fragrant, and the amount given could be more as well🥹! Special shout-out to their soft-boiled eggs though🥚, they were huge and fresh, super yumz!

📍Nanyang Kopi Kia Claypot Coffee, Alexendra Village Food Centre📍
💸 Kopi C Kosong: $1.80

Newly opened drinks stall at Alexendra Village Food Centre, pretty interesting as it brews its coffee in a claypot☕. We ordered our usual Kopi C, however we felt that the coffee taste was pretty mild. The milk they added feels a bit different too, as the Kopi C was a little sweet even though we ordered it with no sugar🧂. It's pretty good, but we probably won't come back for it as we prefer stronger coffee😅. The waiting time for this can get a little long too as their coffee is brewed in small batches using the claypot🙂!

💸 Pork Porridge: $3.50
...
What better way to start the morning than with a warm bowl of porridge☺️? The porridge from Redhill Pork Porridge is affordably priced and comes with lots of ingredients like meatball, pork slices and liver🐷. The rice grains were cooked till soft but personally we prefer the smooth silky porridge texture🍚.The meatball and pork slices were yummy, but the liver was slightly undercooked and had blood on it😥. We also felt that the porridge itself was not that flavourful, hence might not brave the long queue again🥣.

💸 Carrot cake (White/Black): $3
...
Woke up early for breakfast at Redhill Food Centre the other day, it was crowded but we were lucky to have found a seat quickly👍. Couldn't decide if we wanted black⚫ or white⚪ carrot cake at Fu Ming so we just got both haha. The carrot cake itself is really soft and not starchy at all, it just disintegrate in your mouth! We liked the black version more, as it flavourful and slightly sweet. The charred bits were really nice too😃. The white version, on the other hand, was nice too but we would've preferred it to be the crispy kind. We felt that the egg given was a bit little too🍳. However, still a nice place for a quick and fuss-free breakfast🌞!

Do you guys prefer White or Black carrot cake☺️?

📍No. 1 Western Food, Margaret Drive Hawker Centre📍
💸 Chicken Cutlet: $6.50

Once in a while, we love having hawker western food for it's generous portions and old-school taste👍. The Chicken Cutlet here is super huge and crispy🥩, and comes with a generous portion of crinkle-cut fries🍟. Our favourite is definitely their sauce. Unlike the usual black pepper or mushroom sauce, this tastes like a tomato based sauce 🍅. It's a bit tough to describe, but it's reminiscent of the sauce they put on hainanese pork chop, which is sweet and savoury. This has a very old-school taste that reminds us of our childhood memories😌!!

Apart from delicious traditional toasts🍞 and drinks☕, YY Kafei Dian also serves up some affordable and fuss-free breakfast options. Got a mix of stir-fried noodles and beehoon, and added on a fried egg🍳 as well. A great option for those who wish to have a more filling breakfast😌!

📍L32 Handmade Noodles, Geylang📍
...
Had a super satisfying bowl of Ban Mian at Geylang for lunch🍜. The noodles here are handmade, with a good bite. You can choose from Mee Hoon Kueh, Ban mian and U-mian and our favourite is the Mee Hoon Kueh! Lots of ways to customise your Ban Mian as well, as you can get the one with pork🥩 or meatball, even fishball and fish slices🐟 as well! But our favourite is still the one with pork, a classic option! It was super hot in the afternoon and we were sweating buckets while slurping down the Ban Mian, but no regrets honestly~ 🥵

💸 Fried Hokkien Mee (Add-on Egg): $5.70
...
Tried one of the popular Hokkien Mee stalls, YouFu Hokkien Mee, in Golden Mile today😌! Pretty nice and flavourful with Wok Hei in it. Could tell that the noodles and bee hoon soaked up the flavourful broth so it was good👍! We normally prefer the wetter type of Hokkien Mee with more gravy but this version was slightly on the drier side, not what we usually would go for😬. Also added extra egg and was surprised that it was served on the side🍳. We expected it to be mixed into the Hokkien Mee but it wasn't, so we mixed it in ourselves hahaha. Always love more egg which makes it more flavourful and fragrant😋!

📍Kopi More, Golden Mile Food Centre📍
💸 Hot Kopi: $2
...
Major love for the kopi from Kopi More, which is brewed with an espresso machine. The result is a strong, fragrant and smooth cup of kopi☕. We much prefer the hot over the ice version even though we love ice coffee🧊, as the hot kopi tastes stronger and is more fragrant. Definitely a perfect afternoon teabreak drink to have😍! This might just be one of our favourite kopis in Singapore. True to its name, you just want more😉!

💸 Braised Pork Cheek Set (add-on Pork Belly): $10
...
Had a super comforting bowl of braised pork rice today😋. Able to choose from different cuts of meat for the rice bowls and we tried the Braised Pork Cheek Set and added on a portion of Pork Belly🍲. Highly recommend getting the Pork Cheek🥩! Despite it being a lean cut of meat, it was super tender and just melts in your mouth! Also liked that the set came with other ingredients like egg, black fungus, vegetables🥬 etc., it was really filling! The sauce was not too salty but, as all the ingredients were braised in the same sauce and the rice🍚 was also covered in it, the taste did get a little one-dimensional over time. Still, for the wonderfully braised meats, it's worth a try☺️!

We've been patronizing this Yong Tau Foo stall since young and having this again really brings back childhood memories👭! The Kway Teow may look pretty bland and unassuming, but it tastes really flavourful. What's special about their Yong Tau Foo is the addition of Ikan Bilis, which tastes really good in it😍! It might not be the best Yong Tau Foo around, but definitely has a nostalgic taste we'll keep going back for😊.

📍Kway Guan Huat Joochiat Popiah📍
💸 Popiah: $4
...
Look at that huge huge popiah that is bursting with ingredients. The turnip and carrot filling was flavourful but not too wet, which allowed it and other vegetables like cucumber🥒 and lettuce🥬 to remain crunchy. The addition of prawns🍤 also added more flavour to it. Overall, the taste of the popiah was well-balanced, not too salty or sweet. Love it!!😍

Occasionally enjoys pigging out🤙🏻 Also on insta @munchkinggs
