Originating from the Jura region in France, the Mont d’Or is a soft-ripened cheese which is made from raw cow’s milk. It is washed with white wine and baked to a sublime gooey-ness which stays pretty much the same even when it has cooled down. This cheese has a subtle funkiness but that is what makes it irresistible.
Head Chef Balaji served it on a board with assorted cold cuts, toast and some impossibly delicious potato grenaille. We could not stop ourselves from dunking the latter two in the creaminess even when the other dishes started showing up.
If you want to give the Baked Mont d’Or ($36++) a try, do note this item is only available until 15th March.
Love how they added the sauce that added punch to the whole dish overall! One of the must-try definitely!!

From The Food Peeps; a new hole-in-the-wall cafe situated in Maxwell House — a pretty small nook which serves up simple brunch items as well as specialty coffee brewed using beans roasted by Sarnies.
A simple item with a local influence, the Rendang on Toast features Beef Rendang, Poached Eggs and Yoghurt on Sourdough toast. Really liked how the Beef Rendang comes all chunky here; not having any bits that are too fatty or veiny — the beef providing a good chew and a very slight gaminess amidst the spicy rendang that is all savoury and gives a good kick of spiciness that tingles the taste buds. The poached egg over the top comes with all that eggporn action worthy of the ‘gram; revealing its golden goodness as one slices through the egg, whilst everything sits atop a slice of sourdough toast that gives a slight crustiness and a good bite, absorbing the elements above it. Nothing too fancy, but incredibly satisfying with a local twist.
Wonderful, well balanced dishes with great texture and plenty full amount of veges! The dips are really good! Had plates to share as well as 4 mains: roasted chicken, barramundi, lamb riblets and penne.
I choose the bread platter which is the chef’s recommended breads. I managed to try many varieties of bread they offer. It is served with maple honey syrup, butter, brie, prosciutto ham and guacamole. Everything is just complimenting each other.
On the other hand, the egg sandwich is a definite winner. The bread is super soft and moist filled with the delectable filling which is well-seasoned and super tasty. With no exaggeration, every bite transported me back a memory of Japan. I will definitely come back.
Finally tried the Fluffy Shokupan from Fine Dining Bakery! The bread was fluffy indeed while being slightly chewy with generous chunks of egg mayo sandwiched in between them. We got set meals which included a salad and a soup too! 😋
Spicy Beef Ragu (~$20): Angel hair pasta which balanced spicy and tomato-y really well, with a generous amount of beef! 🍝 🌿

Their Honey Toast ($12) sees a liberally buttered slice of toast drizzled with honey, then served with a side of spice poached pears, ice cream of your choice, and a little crumble over the top. Such a humble desert, but get this my friends: every element is perfectly executed and painstakingly made from scratch. From the tender pears lovingly poached for an hour; the handmade Madagascan vanilla ice cream ridden with beautiful specks of vanilla bean; to the house-baked white bread, slowly toasted over the fire till all that glorious melted butter’s absorbed, then given a quick blast on the salamander for that lovely caramelisation on top. Honestly I couldn’t get enough of that buttered toast: so so moist, and that touch of salt really helps balance out all the sugar in this dessert. For those who think butter’s bad for you? Newsflash: we are all dying. Every day. Eat some butter before it is too late.
Was disappointed I couldn’t try their signature hotdog bun bc they ran out of bun. However their beef burger with homemade patty tasted pretty delicious. A classic burger that can’t go wrong. Also saddened that there were no options to upgrade the fries to truffle fries. :(
Liked the easy to drink slow-drip coffee more as the flat white had a coconut-y after taste. Super worth it with #BurppleBeyond 1-for-1!
