The third item served from the burpple beyond set ($32++) was chicken tacos. We were astonished by how good these were!! The soft flour tortilla was layered with warm, spiced chicken cubes and cold vegetables. The dish had great juxtaposition of textures and flavours. The chicken was very well marinated! Really enjoyed this dish, and would return just to try more of their tacos!!
First of all, the portion is huge and I was so stuffed from having just half!! Secondly, holy smokes it was really good ๐คค we got a fajita classic with Baja fish ($16++) - loved the Mexican rice filling with black beans and grilled vegetables. It was also stuffed with sour cream and hot sauce! And I loved the baja fish so much, such a good choice!! The smell of white fish was evident the moment the dish was served. The meat was soft and fresh, lightly battered to give some crunch.
Was a little surprised by the use of soft tacos, which had a strong flour taste that overwhelmed the meat! These chimichurri chicken tacos ($17++ for 3) were otherwise wonderful - the cold salad contrasted against warm spicy chicken, which was tender and well flavoured.
This place is absolutely buzzing on the weekends - was really lucky to snag a table on a Friday night! We tried the Carne Asada (beef, $19++) and Kimchi Pork ($18++). The quesadillas are not quite the usual - instead of being filled with cheese, the tortilla wraps were coated with it and grilled to crisp! It made for a sinfully good meal. Found the steak flavourful but a tad bit difficult to chew. The pork belly was more tender, and the kimchi within gave a delightful spicy zest that helped break up the savoury heaviness of the cheese. Both were topped with onions, cilantro, sour cream and chilli sauce! Plus points to Vatos for the complimentary starter - the nachos paired well with the tangy salsa and guacamole ๐๐ผ๐
I balked at my friendsโ suggestion to order wasabi mayo shrimp burrito ($15.90+), because why order fusion at a mexican joint?! But my skepticism was unfounded and this proved surprisingly good - the prawns were fresh and the mayo a burst of spicy tangy flavour. Also tried this in a bowl, rather than the traditional wrap: the components were slightly different, with slaw being a big component. Wasnโt a big fan of that but I did like the flavoured rice in the bowl more than in the burrito! Again, this is a good deal under burpple beyond but I would love to see more options available for redemption.
This chipotle chicken burrito ($15.90+) sure packs a punch. Filled to the brim with guacamole and mexican rice, the chicken was tender and well seasoned. The burrito was also stuffed with black beans, salsa and spices. A good meal (and halal to boot) especially with burpple beyond, but would love to see more options available for redemption! The restaurant is also pleasantly empty on a weeknight, but service can be a little slow and the music loud.
