Had the Cioppino, La Barca & Al Granchio - a very filling and satisfying meal for 2.
The Cioppino was tangy and had plenty of seafood: clams, mussels, prawns and river fish. Served with 3 slices of garlic bread, but I preferred dipping the crust of the La Barca to soak the tomato broth instead.
Al Granchio had ample crab meat, and featured an interesting tomato-cream sauce that was slightly spicy.
La Barca was the star of the show. It’s huge and large enough to be shared as a side for 4 people. The smoked cheese, mushroom and truffle pate meld together perfectly but can be a bit heavy if you’re attempting this one on your own.
Had a dinner for 2. Decor was rustic yet stylish, ambience was rather dim but they had candles out.
There, the Malakoff et Salade Coucou came highly recommended and was one of the more memorable dishes on the menu. It’s a simple fresh lettuce salad with their own dressing, but paired with deep-fried gruyere, it’s quite remarkable.
The Rosti & Saucisse de Saint-Gall was rather filling, the rosti being a thick fluffy patty reminiscent of a pancake. The veal sausage was pleasant, and it was well-augmented with the onion confit. This dish is best shared.
Cordon Bleu was perfectly cooked and ticked the boxes with the melted raclette and ham stuffing, but it was a tad overwhelming for my tastebuds.
We had the Spatzli as our side, which was a salty, buttery pasta delight.
For dessert, we had red fruits with chantilly cream. It’s a good pairing and wasn’t too sweet - I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I don’t usually take desserts.
1) 400 Day Grain Fed Crossbred Wagyu Deckle, MS 8/9 ($65, 300g)
Got ourselves front row seats to the flame grill action at their open concept kitchen. Impeccable char, insides done to a consistent medium rare perfection. The deckle is the cap around the ribeye, and is just jam-packed with flavour.
2) Auskobe Wagyu Onglet, MS 4/5 ($40, 200g)
Another more obscure cut of steak, the onglet is crazy tender, with most of the flavour and all of the char and perfection of its more expensive sibling
3) Sides: Creamed Kale ($8), Truffle Fries ($7)
Great companions, but was honestly too stuffed and satisfied by the steaks to enjoy them fully. Creamed kale was consistently creamy and appealed to this kale-hater, and the shoestring truffle fries were crisp to the end.
4) Basque Burnt Cheesecake ($12)
I'm no cheesecake aficionado but this was perhaps the fluffiest cheesecake I've had. Paired with some strawberry compote and passionfruit reduction and it goes to the next level.
