This is a fat and juicy popiah that is very well stuffed with veggies. The skin was surprisingly eggy. Very nice.

It’s not common to find thick kaya toast buns. These buns are soft with a light crisp on the outside. I liked that there was a light smear of kaya so that the buns weren’t too sweet, and the bread was allowed to shine. I don’t really understand the hype, but it’s a decent and appropriately priced breakfast in an old school coffee shop.

I wanted to try the value set but didn’t think I could finish it, so I got this without any rice or noodles (otherwise you get a choice of brown rice, white rice or brown rice vermicelli). I liked the generous amount of ingredients. The thunder tea paste is on the bland side, but when mixed with the ingredients, it balances out nicely with the saltier ingredients like the ikan bilis, making for a tasty and healthy meal. The thunder tea rice/noodles alone is $5.90. Topping up $3 gets a basil omelette and a fried beancurd. The omelette was cold and I didn’t like it very much, but the fried beancurd was hot with a crunchy crust, though slightly too salty.

I don’t understand the hype behind this. It is, at best, mediocre chee cheong fun. The skin is thick and sticky, and the mushrooms don’t go well with the cheong fun. I did appreciate that it’s not oily and the portion is big enough for dinner.

Qi Ji can always be trusted to serve decent quality popiah. It’s not the best popiah, but it is good, and there’s generally a good amount of vegetables and juicy shrimps. I usually ask for reduced sweet sauce, otherwise it is too sweet.

This isn’t smoked salmon. It’s salmon flakes, possibly from a can. But I liked it anyway, and I think it matches the chee cheong fun better than smoked salmon would. The chee cheong fun is not as silky smooth and thin as the Pek Kio one, but it’s smooth enough and well stuffed. There’s a nice addition of chye poh and tobiko at the side too. Plus, zero queue.

This is my favourite yong tau foo, and my go-to when I want a healthy, filling bowl. There’s a huge variety of ingredients, both steamed and fried, and most of them come in large pieces. Some of the ingredients I have never seen elsewhere and don’t even know the names of. For this bowl, I chose 8 ingredients, with soup only (no noodles/rice). I highly recommend the corn which is incredibly sweet. The clear soup is light and garlicky. You get to add as much condiments as you want, and the aunty who owns the stall is good-natured and often laughing.

Love, love this lei cha so much! It’s light-tasting, not oily or salty, and filled with plenty of clean ingredients, making for a filling meal. Interestingly, the thunder tea paste here isn’t made of tea leaves, but instead of a blend that includes nuts and beans, resulting in a slightly sweet and nutty tasting paste that’s delicious. They let you customise your bowl. The woman in front of me asked for kosong (no rice or noodles) and more vegetables, and I asked for less bee hoon and more tofu.

I ordered the smallest size, and got quite a big portion for the price. I love it that it was soft and filled with plenty of fluffy egg, while the top was brown and crisp. There’s chye poh scattered in that gives it a little crunch. I would have preferred it less oily and with more radish rather than flour, but overall it’s a very good carrot cake. I read online that the wait time is long, but I went at 12pm on a rainy Saturday and there was no queue.

This chee cheong fun is glorious. The skin is thin, slippery and silky smooth, and it’s filled up with plenty of tasty char siew bits and topped with sesame seeds. Fragrant isn’t an adjective I usually use to describe chee cheong fun but I’ll gladly use it on this one. The family who owns this stall is friendly as well. Go on a weekday morning if you can, the queue is slightly more manageable then.

Loved the silky smooth thin skin of the chee cheong fun. The prawns are juicy and the soy sauce and sesame seeds are just right. One of the best chee cheong funs I’ve ever had, though I’m not sure if it’s worth the queue.

Lovely place for breakfast and lunch, located on the first floor of Beauty World. I came here after walking in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and appreciated the comfort food in an air-conditioned environment. The french toast was eggy, moist but not soggy, and not too oily. Will return for more breakfasts!
