hawker (roast meat) 🍖
I thought their dine-in portion was already generous, but their takeaway ones seems substantially larger?! Definitely a very pleasant surprise. The meat was still crisp and with the most delightful salty tang! Highly recommend this store for its quality and affordability ($3.50).
Tried this on a friend’s recommendation - the stall commands a snaking queue, and this 3 meats dish ($7) is a crowd favourite. Char siew, roast pork and roast duck is served atop white rice with a generous splash of sweet sauce. Meats here are of a fattier cut, with crisp skins and plenty of char. This might be well suited for those who enjoy their roast meats, but I found the price a tad too high.
This stall is a relatively new addition to the food centre - it only popped up last year, but has garnered quite a following! Their standard chicken rice ($3) features steamed chickened doused in thick soy sauce. I’d prefer the traditional flavoured rice over this plain rice, but the sauce gives plenty of flavour and the portions are very substantial!
Truly one of those hidden gems that keeps you coming back for more!! The char siew shao rou fan ($3) features an extremely generous portion of meat for its price (I usually ask for less rice), and the meat is by far one of the best I’ve had. The char siew is glazed in a sweet sauce, is tender and nicely charred. The roast pork really crackles with every bite and melts in your mouth!! #oldisgold
Here’s a family favourite that sees us all tripping down on the weekend! Portions are large and affordable - we got half a chicken ($12), a slab of roast pork ($4) and rice ($0.50 each). Best of all, the quality has remained top notch over the many years that we’ve been patronising this stall 🌟 the tender meat, crispy skin and flavourful sauces are my favourite! #oldisgold
A local favourite, combining sweet charsiew and salty roast pork ($4). Loved that the meat was tender with little fat. The vegetables were a surprising but welcomed addition!
