Travel Abit Laaaaa
Just a five minute stroll from Kembangan MRT sits a hidden gem along a row of inconspicuous shophouses. This place takes their food very seriously, so consider this spot for a date. Have the Pommery Pork Chop ($24) served with mash, purple cabbage, apples and pommery mustard sauce, or pastas such as the Duck Confit Tagliatelle ($24) with bits of hazelnut for texture or the comforting Beef Ragu Spaghetti ($23).

We ordered the cheese chicken and spicy chicken bratwursts together with their egg pasta and a rosti ($1 extra). The bratwursts were rather large but i would have loved the extra thick ones. Nothing wrong, just mediocre. I would skip the pasta (bland and overcooked), maybe would have gone for some oven-roasted potatoes. The star was the rosti. A beautiful char, crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. Perfectly seasoned. Exactly how you would envision it to be. Would strongly recommend the sour cream to go with the rosti. Without the 1-for-1, we might not get it cause it wasn’t too filling but still, a nice meal!
Tucked away in Singpost is a fuss-free Halal noodle joint that's great for lunch in the East. Go for the flavourful and aromatic Signature Beef La Mian ($8.90) or the comforting Seafood La Mian ($9.90) that comes with crab stick, fishball, mussel, prawns and tofu.

Super yummy quick fix. The scrambled eggs with the chili beef is just PERFECT. Definitely worth the price for 1 for 1
However I was disappointed to see that the eggs are removed from the menu, leaving only the free flow salad and soup behind (both extremely forgettable but hey, it’s free. If you need to know, the salad is doused in that goma sauce; you know which one)
I got the KEI Signature Kaisendon [$16] and what you see is kinda exactly what you get. It’s an average Kaisendon for below average prices so you would have to adjust your expectations. It comes w nicely sized chunks of tuna, salmon, tako, and some other fish that I honestly forgot right after. There was also a slice of abalone, some ikura, and diced cucumber, all sitting on a bed of Wakame.
Tuna had a mushy texture while everything else was fine. The signature sauce wasn’t too invasive, tasting like a typical soy and sesame oil combination that almost faded into the background. The nori was a bit floppy, I think it could have used a quick toast so it doesn’t result in an unnecessarily cumbersome eating experience. Rice wasn’t as pearly and glossy as you would want from a Japanese rice bowl, but it’s not too bad either.
The dining area is really small and cramped and the staff are rather curt so I would suggest KEI Kaisendon if you want a quick dinner alone.
Eat your average Kaisendon, pay a good price for it, and get out.
Create Your Own Swiss Meal ($14.90 for 1 main + 2 sides + 1 sauce).
I chose chicken cheese bratwurst, rosti (+$1), roasted potatoes and sour cream. My friend had smoked pork ceverlat (+$1), swiss egg pasta and baby spinach (+$1).
Chicken cheese bratwurst was good. Firm, well seasoned with bits of flowly cheese. Rosti was fabulous. Perfectly cooked, crispy edges and well seasoned. Roasted potatoes on the other hand could use more seasoning.
Smoked pork ceverlat was firm but would have been tastier if it was more seasoned. Swiss egg pasta was not to my liking. Tasted kinda like chicken powder egg noodle? And also it kinda lacked seasoning. Baby spinach was good. Came with cherry tomatoes and coated with a vinaigrette dressing.
Also we had the Iced Elderflower Tea ($1.50 U.P. $3). Really nice, my first time trying elderflower. Their tea had just the right amount of sweetness and some slightly peachy floral-y flavour.
Overall I would definitely come back here if I have cravings for rosti. Plus with the burpple 1-for-1 this meal cost only $20.90 for the two of us.
Ridiculously delicious pasta. Crunchy seared prawns with aromatic prawn butter, mentaiko, topped with konbu & chives.
So we decided to try Salted egg yolk croissant with raclette cheese.
The croissant is buttery and flaky with generous filling of salted egg, and top with raclette cheese.
I feel the combination of salted egg and raclette cheese is too rich for my tastebuds.
Next time will just go for original salted egg yolk croissant.
💰$9.9.
