Spicy Mentaiko Don ($22.25)
*price includes svc charge & GST
-
Steamed rice, chopped spicy tuna, mentaiko salmon, house-made pickles, wasabi, furikake, tare sweet sauce (think sweet teriyaki sauce)
-
I wouldn’t eat anything raw prior to falling in love with @genkisushisg’s sashimi and @poketheory’s salmon poké around last year, so I thought I’m a raw 🐟 fan now but I guess it wasn’t the case.
-
When I took my first bite of the tuna, I knew I made the wrong choice choosing this as my virgin Tanuki experience rather than their truffle beef gyu which I initially wanted because it was unpleasantly fishy and the texture is very fibrous 🤮 I took no more than 2 pieces of it.
-
The salmon hmm I was really disappointed because it tasted not that fresh to me (I’m no fish expert but that was what I thought) and I can barely taste the mentaiko. I like my salmon to have abit of that fatty taste but this doesn’t have it.
-
The only saving grace of this dish was the sweet tare sauce which they poured abit on the rice and gave it as a dipping sauce, that helped me unwillingly finish the salmon section of the bowl because I couldn’t bear to leave so much food left when I paid $20++
-
Verdict: I just ordered the wrong dish... Will never order this again but would give their Jewel truffle gyu and other dishes a chance to prove why people love Tanuki the next time I go
Original non-spicy tonkotsu ramen ($7.90)
*price excludes GST
-
Tonkotsu broth, noodles, chasu, egg, seaweed, black fungus, spring onion
-
This is their best-seller and indeed, it live up to that label - it’s nice!👍 The broth is very smooth and creamy, might be a liiiiiitttttlee salty but it’s still delicious! The noodle was NOT too soft and had a good bite to it🍜😋
-
The charsu is not those melt in the kind ones but its soft and has a light flavour, I don’t normally like chasu in ramen but this one is nice for me!😊 Also the seaweed is NOT crispy.
-
To be honest, I would’ve been satisfied even if they only served the noodle and the broth without all the other ingredients haha. I tried my friend’s gyokai ramen (mixture of fish and pork broth) and it’s surprisingly nice too! Its has a unique taste I never tasted in other ramen houses.
-
Verdict: affordable, delicious and reasonable portion, confirm will come back laa!🙆🏻♀️ Yall must go and try!

Recommendations:
1️⃣Tonkotsu Gyokai (For those who like rich flavour)
2️⃣Original Tonkotsu (For those who like lighter flavour)
3️⃣Dry Truffle (interesting try! $6.90++ gets abit jelak after awhile but still good)
