Revisited Obba Jjajang after two to three years. Am on my hunt to try more Korean Chinese food. So if you got any favourites, let me know!

Obba Jjajang is probably one of the better places to get your jjajangmyeon at an affordable price point.

Jjajangmyeon is essentially noodles with thin slices of pork belly, onions and chunjang - a thick, gooey sweet bean sauce. Enjoyed every bit of it from the sweet, savoury sauce to the generous bits of diced pork in every bite.

Stir the noodles quickly before it gets all clumpy. The portions are big. You may want to share this with a friend. I was too hungry to take a photo of how it looks after we stirred the noodles.

JJAMPONG - a Korean seafood soup with chilli powder.

Obba Jjajang is probably one of the better places to get your jjampong and jjajangmyeon at an affordable price point.

Can you believe it that this is my second jjampong in my entire lifetime? So what you can expect is a HUGE BOWL of noodles is an abundance of prawns, mussels, clams and squid. For greens you get some pak choy, chives and onions.

The mildly spicy seafood soup was delicious and rich in seafood flavour. A comforting treat for the soul.

I rarely eat gimbap (or kimbap) but read so many good things about Meta’s Gimbap ($15+) that I decided to try it for myself. And I was really impressed. It was very different. This is part of Meta’s takeaway menu designed for the circuit breaker period. And tomorrow’s (19 June) the last day you can try it.

So you’ll get 8 pieces of rice rolls, tuna, egg strips and vegetables wrapped in nori seaweed. A popular food with kids and picnics, gimbap is seasoned with sesame and salt unlike sushi rice - which is seasoned with vinegar. Really tasty and flavourful.

Before we can dine out and meet our friends again on Friday, why not try Michelin-starred Meta’s Wagyu Short Rib Don ($47+) that’s only available as part of their circuit breaker menu?

The flavourful wagyu short rib that sits atop a bed of rice is so succulent and tender that it literally melts in your mouth. What makes the short rib excellent is how the meat is marinated and cooked - served medium rare as seen with the reddish brown colour of the meat.

Beyond the beef, it’s served with a runny soft boiled egg, maitake mushrooms, pickled vegetables, caramelised onions and garlic chips with spring onions for garnish.

If you’re feeling lavish, you can add a piece of foie gras ($28+) although it isn’t necessary. The foie gras was rich and buttery that elevated the taste profile of the dish. Eat it together with the wagyu and you’ll be on cloud nine. However, the portion of the foie gras didn’t really justify the price too much.

Everything perfectly complemented each other. I don’t usually enjoy eating mushrooms but the maitake mushroom is exceptionally tasty. And the rice was really fragrant and well-seasoned.

I didn’t have many beef bowls during this period but this is certainly unforgettable. The quality of food served tasted just as good as having it when you’re dining in.

Available for takeaway and delivery.
