Foodie Journey In SG
Look at this gorgeous photo seemingly torn out of a foodie magazine! BRIO exceeded my expectations with its amazingly delicious food, impeccable service, and humongous portions (the holy trinity of a good meal!).
My dining partners and I had four lunch sets to share, which set us back around $16 per person. We topped up for the Minestrone, which was warm and tangy but nothing really spectacular about it. The highlights were definitely the main courses.
The Fish&Chips came with two large chunky pieces of fried fish, crispy and satisfying especially when paired with the tartar sauce. There was a heap of salad on the side to cleanse your palate, even though the batter was light and I didn't find the fish cloying up my arteries. Still, it was thoughtful to include salad for a balance meal.
The seafood pasta drenched in marinara sauce was slightly too sour for my taste but my dining partners love it. I do appreciate the freshness of the seafood and the generous serving of them (3 large prawns - very fresh!!, numerous clams and mussels). Pasta was cooked to perfection, the firm bites of each strand were as pleasing as delicious.
Next, we had the chicken w/lemon sauce (literally squeeze the lemon on it) paired with some sort of curry. The curry was mild. The chicken was juicy and on the leaner side, which I appreciate. When dipped with the curry, the meat's flavour profile is definitely enhanced. We were pleasantly surprised to find that pasta was served along with the chicken.
Lastly, my favourite!! The duck confit. Soft duck meat that fall apart from my fork encased in crispy skin, the dish definitely stole the spotlight from others. The mash potato was creamy, buttery and smooth. With a side of arugula to add to the bursting flavours of the dish, I had an enjoyable time dining at BRIO!
I had such a delicious and satisfying experience having these pizzas. The mixed mushroom came perfumed in a tantalising truffle smell and scattered with generous amount of mushroom. Gently poke the yolk for an even more creamy texture. The mixed meat was saltier and bolder on flavours. They, again, did not scrimp on the ingredients and every bite was chock full of some types of meat - be it bacons, minced beef, etc. The tomato sauce held everything together and it was perfect to cut through the creaminess the mixed mushroom offered. One of the best part was the dough. It was chewy and not too heavy. I could taste the slight charcoal flavour. With burpple 1 for 1, everything was $28.42 (inclusive of GST and service charge). I will be back to try the pasta and other pizzas. But take note that with burpple you can only have either 2 plates of pasta or 2 plates of pizzas but not 1 plate of pizza and pasta.
First time here after seeing so many reviews raving about this. We ordered the sour and spicy soup based noodle that came with generous amount of springy noodle and delicious marble beef. The soup had a golden sheen to it and was tangy and spicy and hits all the right spot. You could smell the sourness and spiciness before you even dig in. My friend loved the soup so much she emptied it. For me, I preferred the tomato based soup a little more. It was so rich and flavourful. However, I think the ebiko prawn paste balls could be skipped; it was mediocre at best and the price point of it ($7 for 4 balls) definitely did not contribute to my pleasant memories of this place. The damage for everything using BB deal (2 bowls of noodle and 1 side dish of ebiko prawn paste ball) was $25.20. Quite affordable considering it is in the city area!
Situated in a pretty eyecatching location in Funan, the coffee shop serves coffee, tea, pastries and cakes. My friend and I used the 1 for 1 deal for drinks. I had the hot chocolate which was creamy and milky with just the right amount of sweetness for me (think Starbuck Hot Chocolate but at least 1.5 times less sweet). That said, I do have a sweet tooth and my friend who do not have one insisted that the hot chocolate was too sweet. She had the black cold brew and said that it "exceeded her expectation". 2 drinks for $8.50.
Used burpple beyond for this! The chocolate truffle cake was thick and rich with a hint of bitterness. On the other hand, the millecrepe was lighter and fluffier. But both my friend and I preferred the former because of its robust flavour. The millecrepe became almost tasteless toward the end. Nothing to rave about for the tea or service.
The portions were so huge that I ended up eating only a light dinner after that. The price was a little steep but with burpple beyond it was totally worth it! These 2 dishes + 2 drinks set us back at $47++!
I had the katsu don and I absolutely love it. It was my first time having beef katsu so it was an eye-opening (or is it mouth-opening?) experience but my friend who dislike meat that were slightly raw said that it was not her thing. Plus, if you are not a fan of fatty meat, you may have to scrap them out like me.
Meanwhile, the omelette rice paired with the tangy tomato sauce was fantastic. My friend said that she preferred the omelette from OMU but favoured the rice here as it was fluffier. The steak, compared to mine, was also less fatty.
We went at a time where there wasn't many people so the service was good! Will visit again with burpple beyond!
