Chicken rice here was subpar. Not surprising though, since it’s become a commercialised chain. Food is also on the pricier end, don’t think I’ll be back.

I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this place because I thought it would be overhyped but it exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favourite chicken rice spots. Chicken was extremely tender, plump and juicy and had a silky smooth texture. The light soya sauce it was doused in gave the dish a slight savoury sweetness. Rice was also fragrant and grains were well separated. It’s a little on the pricier side but I think it’s worth it leh, I would go back.

One of my top few Nasi lemak spots in Singapore. Sadly, they’re only open on weekdays during lunch and I don’t work nearby😭 their Har cheong gai option is fantastic. The chicken comes out perfectly fried every single time and still remains juicy despite the outside being so crisp. Love the blue pea rice which isn’t very greasy and is very light and fluffy. Also tried the unagi rice which is good too! Unagi was damn tender and fresh. $10 for unagi is also damn cheap, esp for this quality.

Was one of the only few places on Burpple Beyond that were open on New Years. Soup broth was like a bland version of HDL broth. Noodles were decent. However, I feel like the price point was too steep for what you get. Probably won’t be back.

Rarely get a chance to eat kampong chicken but when I do, I’m hardly ever disappointed. The ones here are chunky and outrageously tender and juicy. Sauce is great, chilli is great. Rice is fluffy. Everything is great.

Have eaten here a few times already, chicken not consistently nice and can be dry at times. Rather steep price for chicken rice tbh. But okay lah it’s still decent, will still eat here if I’m in the area. And of course lah it’s situated in town, still considered one of the more affordable eats here.

One of our favourite wanton mee spots in Singapore. If you want a chilli that literally punches you in the face then come here; I always think that just a small drop of their chilli will be okay but I always prove myself wrong because one drop of chilli here is as spicy as a whole bottle of chilli you can find in NTUC ok!! But it goes great with the wanton mee, 10/10 recommend.

We were looking forward to trying this but sadly, it was a pretty disappointing meal.

The Bak Kut Teh here is pricier than most places in Singapore because they’re quite a famous brand, but we feel that the price point didn’t match the quality. The soup was not as rich as we had anticipated it to be and we know quite a number of other less known places that have a much more robust, peppery broth. The ribs, granted, were rather big, but were a tad bit on the rubbery side. The meat was a little tough to chew and did not have as much flavour as we had hoped it would have. Overall, it was a subpar bowl of BKT, maybe due to complacency, or maybe because we were just plain unlucky. .

Finally lucked out and managed to get a seat at Flowers in the Window.

Not sure why but every time we are there, it’s either closed or too crowded. We can easily see why though! The place is absolutely enchanting and doesn’t make you feel like you’re in JB at all. The food is pretty damn good too. Highly recommend the Japanese Seafood Brunch which features salmon sashimi, crabmeat sticks, grilled sushi rice, edamame, roasted seaweed, salmon roe and a soft boiled egg. Very wholesome and filling; it lasted us the whole day!

**adapting this post from my Instagram, am sorely missing JB cafe hoping 😭😭😭

GLC Restaurant is a humble little stall that sells scrumptious plates of tzi char dishes at affordable prices. Their crispy egg noodles was incredibly slurp-worthy and we enjoyed the subtle crunch of the noodles even after it had been dunked in that viscous, savoury sauce. What makes it even better is that the place is also halal-certified so you can bring your Muslim friends for lunch here too! .

A must try here are the butter pork ribs. We know the initial idea people get when they see the word butter is "ooo creamy" but no, this isn't the butter here. The pork ribs are coated in a white powdery substance that will make you think that they accidentally poured baby milk powder all over the dish, but don't be deceived. This powder MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH. LITERALLY. It has the most amazing texture and flavors that compliment the pork so well.

Other favourites include their wine cockles and their fuyong egg. We haven't tried anything here that we never liked, and it's also a great place to bring your friends for a gathering, more people = more variety of food you can order to try! .
