For my main, I had the ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ช๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ (๐๐๐$๐๐++) - which basically consisted of 2 HUGE slices of sourdough, Bayonne ham, cheese, a fried egg, and some salad at the side! โบ๏ธ Iโll rate this a 6/10 - while the portions were pretty generous (esp. the bread), I personally felt like the carb: fat/protein ratio was kinda off - wayyy too much carbs for my liking and I struggled finishing the bread though I love bread ๐ฐ but the sourdough was really yummy ๐คค
In terms of the individual components, the Bayonne ham was good, but not outstanding; and I felt it was really salty when i had it without the bread ๐ The fried egg was decent, but did not have the runny yolk I look for in a sunny side up! Salad was nothing special too heh. Hence, I feel this dish still has room for improvement - but nevertheless decent, though I wouldnโt order it again - especially because it was $27 nett - really pricey!

I went to Populus for dinner on a weekday, and got the ๐๐๐๐๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ง๐ (๐๐๐$๐๐++), which is linguine in a homemade lobster bisque as the pasta sauce, accompanied with crabmeat and scallops! Overall, taste-wise this was a 9/10 for me - I really enjoyed it, other than the fact that the portion was HUGE for me (or maybe Iโm just a small eater...) However, the lobster bisque was well-executed, could really taste the sweetness of the seafood!!! And as you can see they were pretty generous w toppings too ๐คฉ However, I did feel that prices were pretty steep, as I paid close to $31 nett for a main in a cafe! But this was really good so I guess no regrets ordering it bc really quality ingredients ๐๐ผ
I also got the ๐๐++) - and while Populus has coffee in their name, I felt it was just pretty avg like a 6/10! Definitely still enjoyed it, but not the smooth/silky/nutty taste notes that I prefer heh.
โจI would go back to Populus to try their brunch items, which actually look really good ๐ And really, their seafood linguine is worth a try!!

However, the ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐๐น๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ (๐ฆ๐๐$๐ญ๐ต ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐) was quite a disappointment... 3/10 for me given how EXTREMELY expensive it was... โน๏ธ firstly, the pancakes did not taste like pandan at all, which was really disappointing since we only ordered it because it was supposedly pandan-flavoured! but yeah... it was a bad choice because it just felt like they put green colouring into the usual pancakes. the other components did not go well with it either, such as the berries; and the ice cream that came along with it was Pulut Hitam (black glutinous rice) so it was kinda strange. some suggestions I have for this dish would be 1) include some coconut component e.g. swap the pulut hitam ice cream to a coconut ice cream 2) increase the pandan aroma.

As usual, I also took away some cakes from the cafe! ๐ฑ๐ฌ ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐), which I really enjoyed! But it was slightly too sweet towards the end - though I loved the combination of Gula Melaka and salted caramel - 7-7.5/10! My personal favourite was DEFINITELY the ๐ด๐ฌ ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐) - it had the right amount of spice, was moist yet not oily, and was not too sweet throughout the time I was eating it - 8.5/10!

Personally, the highlight of this cafe is definitely COFFEE - especially the ๐ฑ๐ฌ ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐), which I rate a solid 9/10!!! only -1 point is bc its $8.50 for 250ml which is really pretty expensive ๐ Would still go back for it once in awhile though!
I also tried their ๐ฑ๐ฌ ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐) at the cafe itself, and it was really good too - strong, smooth, yet not overpowering! 8/10 from me given how good the cold brew was ๐คฉ

Made a trip down to Baristart Coffee for an early dinner, and I really love the vibes of this cafe! Itโs centrally located, yet the lighting and ambience is really on point ๐๐ผ Baristart prides themselves on using Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk, which is only produced by about 1% of cows in Japan!
We tried the ๐๐๐ข๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐๐จ๐ง (๐๐๐$๐๐.๐๐+) as well as the ๐๐จ๐ค๐ค๐๐ข๐๐จ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ซ๐ (๐๐๐$๐๐. Safe to say, the Butadon was my favourite - would rate it a 7/10! Just LOOK at those beautifully placed slices of pork ๐คค The generous amounts of meat, coupled with the savoury & sweet Teriyaki seasoning really was to my liking. However, I did find some slices of pork to be slightly too tough - so just something to take note.
On the other hand, the Hokkaido Carbonara was kinda an overhype.. โน๏ธ thought it wouldโve been really cool to try a carbonara pasta cooked with Hokkaido milk + its one of their featured dishes, but heh honestly think this dish left much to be desired... think it does have quite some potential though so hm Iโll say overall like 5/10.
And to end off our meal, we had the super cute Except uhm the one we got was kinda disfigured and looks like its v sad even though we kinda ordered it for the gram ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ... HAHAHA but it does taste pretty good!! Basically like a typical bingsu, but hm nothing too unique about it other than how cute it looks. Though I must give credit for the super yumz Hokkaido Milk drizzle so 6.5-7/10 (?)
Overall, I may return for the butadon, but not really sure if itโs worth the trip down. But maybe Iโll try it again one day if Iโm in the area - or if Iโm looking for a place with nice ambience and coffee โบ๏ธ

found this gem of a place thanks to a friendโs recommendation, and we really LOVED the food here!!
Came here for the ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ (๐๐๐$๐๐), and it was SO GOOD!!! like actually rate it a 10/10 ๐ญ๐คฉ this dish was SO well executed; a basically perfect fried rice, one of the best iโve had. all the components goes so well together in terms of taste and texture; and the portion is rather generous as well!!! the first thing that hit me when this dish was served to us was the wok-hei ๐๐ผ and the seasoning was totally on point too (loved the generous amount of XO sauce, yet not overpowering), and the texture was further enhanced with the addition of tobiko fish roe!! and just look at that MOUNTAIN of crab meat ..... so so good rly ๐๐๐ผ actually craving the fried rice while typing this... but yeah only thing to note is the portion is quite a lot and can be quite carb-heavy/jelak, so do share it with a friend and order a non-carb dish especially if youโre a small eater!
Next, the ๐๐ง๐ ๐ค๐๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐ง๐ฌ (๐๐๐$๐๐/๐-๐๐ฉ๐๐ฌ) was REALLY good too ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ prawns were seasoned with shio kombu, burnt butter and garlic, and was super fresh and well-executed!!! ๐คฉ and tip: the burnt butter goes SUPER well with the fried rice so if you order both, donโt forget to leave some of the butter for your rice!!
only downside is that prices are slightly steep (expect to spend ~$25/pax) but NO REGRETS will definitely return!!!! do go give this place a try, especially if youโre in the CBD โจ #chichidiningsg
