After climbing up an unassuming stairway and opening what seemed like a door to Narnia, we were brought to an ambient and casual steakhouse with a novel concept. The atmosphere was truly speakeasy, with Indie music playing in the background and our waiter promptly attending to us. Ash was a pleasant and thoughtful, checking in on us every now and then and making sure that we were comfortable and enjoyed our meal. His down-to-earth personality really brought service to another level! Aside from the fantastic service, the food was nothing short of amazing. We started off with Crispy Pig's Ear and Grilled Ox Tongue, the latter being my favorite due to how well seasoned it was. Combined with shaved fennel, salsa verde, and jalapeno, the dish had a distinct Mediterranean twist. The star of the night was undoubtedly the Black Opal Zabuton Wagyu and Full Blood Wagyu Rib Cap, served literally on a silver platter with plump cherry vine tomatoes and roasted garlic, accompanied by a Borderlaise sauce and Scampi butter. The steak was perfectly cooked to a medium rare, well seasoned, and with a delightful charred crust. While the sauces complemented the meat well and added a new dimension to its taste, the purist in me gravitated towards smearing each slice with the beautifully roasted garlic, resulting in a garlicky but slightly sweet bite of juicy, melt-in-your-mouth steak. The sides deserved much attention too, especially the Beef Heart Tomatoes which managed to convert a tomato hater like myself. We wrapped up the meal with an Eton Mess and Burnt Blue Cheese Cheesecake. While the latter may be offputting to some, the chefs have expertly crafted the dish such that the blue cheese funk doesn't consume your palate, but rather leave a lingering aftertaste. Coupled with a berry sorbet that cuts through the melted gooeyness, the dish was well balanced in every aspect.

Overall, we enjoyed every dish, and coupled with a laid back and chill atmosphere, this is a perfect place for an after work hangout or a romantic date.

We ordered a variety of items, from skewers, cold side dishes, grilled foods and a rice bowl. The skewers were well seasoned and cooked nicely, while the ponzu beef had a nice balance of acidity with a slight smokey aftertaste. The tobiko roe on top provided a well needed crunch and complemented the beefy flavor. However, the star of the meal was undoubtedly the acallop mentaiyaki, cooked pefectly and torched with mentaiko, this dish was filled with umami flavor while still maintaining the sweetness of the scallop. Every dish had its merits and were great. Would definitely recommend this as an affordably-priced izakaya with good drinks.
