Featuring Meat n' Chill, The Communal Place,

Visited the establishment for weekday lunch with very little experience with Russian cuisine. I had expected the food to taste very rich or heavy, but it was all fairly mild yet well seasoned. My friend and I shared a dumpling platter (12 pcs), a salmon cheese crepe, a Ukrainian borscht (soup), and a pork/cheese chebureki combo (fried pastry with filling, somewhat resembling curry puffs). The dumpling wrappers are a bit thicker and more chewy than I am used to, but the combo was overall a great way to explore new flavour combinations. I particularly enjoyed the potato and bacon dumpling, and the beef and chicken dumpling. The borscht had the distinct richness of tomato and herbs without being overwhelming, and paired really well with the bread. The crepes were light and fluffy, with a decent amount of fillings. The chebureki was not as crispy as I had expected, but packed a good punch in terms of flavour. The dumplings, crepes and chebureki were all served with their own tangy dipping sauces that really enhanced their flavours and textures. I also really enjoyed the refreshing kompot (fruit punch), which was a nice palate cleanser. We also had a kvass (a drink made from rye bread, but tasted like beer without the alcohol), which surprised me with its complex and novel taste. Overall, I truly enjoyed the experience at, and would definitely recommend it for people looking to explore the flavours of Russia through familiar foods such as dumplings.

Loved the music being played (I am very much a late 2000s-early 2010s music kinda person). Visited with my brother for a weekday lunch and place was lively but not crowded. We ordered a soup of the day (tomato soup), oreo milkshake, New York strip steak (medium rare with Echalote sauce), and Hickory Pork Ribs. Everything was quite tasty and very filling. I definitely enjoyed the smokiness of the ribs, the complex taste of the Cajun rice (we had it as one of the sides to our mains), and the crumbly corn bread the most, but the rest of the food was more than satisfactory. Prices are very reasonable for the occasional lunch treat. Definitely would recommend the place to friends and would love to come back with more people so we can try more of the sides and/or the sharing platters!

Good ambience, nice service, reasonably priced food.

Visited with a friend and was welcomed with a pleasant sample of their Welcome Drink (which my friend later ordered a full-sized version of). Had their Miso Pork Belly (special for the day, $14) for myself and a Fish Taco ($14) to share. Portions are very filling and reasonably priced. Pork Belly was a good balance of lean and fatty meat, very tender and glazed in a rich and savoury miso sauce. Simple salad served on the side. Would recommend enjoying it as a side dish with something more simple to balance out the rich taste. Fish Tacos were surprisingly large, featuring very crispy fish filets with a light, simple salsa to balance out the dish.

We finished off the course with a Chocolate Bomb dessert ($18). Very fun experience as we broke the ball by dropping it from a height, revealing a number of different berries, cheesecake pieces and honeycomb candies. Condensed milk and caramel sauces were also offered to complement the experience.

Overall, an enjoyable experience that I would recommend for special occasions.
