Western 🍽️
The chicken chop was tender with a slight char, topped with savoury brown gravy that gave it that classic coffeeshop taste. The fries were crisp, baked beans added sweetness and the soft bread roll rounded out the plate. It’s old‑school western food done simply, hearty and still very affordable. Be prepared for a bit of waiting during peak hours. It’s a comforting neighbourhood favourite that delivers on flavour and nostalgia 》$7.50
Light and garlicky pasta with a tender pork chop in black pepper sauce. Nothing over the top, just honest flavours at a price that makes it feel like real value-for-money comfort food 》$8.20
Marinated with spices and seasoning, served with mash, veg and mushroom sauce but sadly didn’t quite hit the mark. The meat was overcooked and tough, making it a bit of a letdown compared to the other dishes. Flavours were decent but texture took the joy out of it 》$22.90
The aglio olio here is bold, garlicky and packs just the right amount of heat. Each bite delivers that satisfying punch of flavour that lingers. The chicken chop is tender and juicy, perfectly paired with black pepper sauce that adds a savoury kick. Portions are generous, enough to send me straight for the inevitable post-lunch food coma. With big flavours and great value, this is one meal that hits the spot without hitting the wallet too hard 》$8.20
The chicken chop had a nicely grilled, well-seared crust that gave way to juicy, tender meat. It was served with JOFA peppercorn sauce, though the sauce leaned a little thin — I’d have preferred a bolder, thicker consistency to really bring out the flavours.
Sides were decent but the portions felt a bit small. If you’re arriving with an appetite, you might find yourself wishing for a more generous serving 》$8.90
Tender, well-seared chicken smothered in a bold black pepper sauce that packs heat without overpowering. Crispy fries add crunch, while the buttery, fragrant rice balances out the spice. Generous portions at a budget-friendly price 》$9.30
Pork meatballs aren’t the norm and that’s exactly why I love these. A welcome change from the usual beef options, they’re perfect for non-beef eaters or anyone looking to switch things up. Handmade and packed with flavour, they’re juicy, slightly garlicky and have little bits of carrot for added texture.
The marinara’s got that tangy, homemade vibe with chunks of onion and tomato. Great for sharing, especially if you want something a little different from their usual grilled fare 》$7.20
Wild Olives is one of those hawker gems that delivers restaurant quality flavours at wallet-friendly prices. The grilled chicken is tender, with a beautifully charred exterior that locks in its juiciness. The teriyaki glaze adds a sweet yet balanced richness, making every bite deeply satisfying.
Every main comes with two sides and my go-to picks are always the mushroom rice with caramelised onions and grilled herb potatoes. The rice is full of flavour and so fragrant, while the potatoes are crispy on the outside and buttery soft inside. If those aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other options like mashed potatoes, fries, coleslaw, veggies or garden salad.
To round out the meal, a comforting bowl of soup is available for just $1. Just a heads-up: the dinner queue is no joke. Expect to wait at least an hour. For a meal this satisfying, it’s a commitment worth making 》$7.20
Tender and juicy teriyaki glazed pork belly filled with flavours and a good ratio of meat to fats, served with a side of mesclun greens 》$12
Situated at a coffee shop in Hougang, Common Grill by Collins serves quality western food at affordable prices. The portion of the mixed grill was quite big with their signature grilled chicken chop, pork chop and bratwurst sausage, served with aglio olio pasta, corn cob & mesclun salad. This is definitely enough to satisfy a hungry person or even good enough for sharing 》$15
Pork tenderloin grilled and topped with truffle cream sauce. Comes with a house salad and one side. The pork chop was well marinated, grilled perfectly and flavourful. The meat was tender and juicy, tasty on its own and even better when accompanied by the well-balanced homemade truffle cream sauce. I chose potato skins as my side which was basically half potato topped with melted cheese. Something different to try and the potato skin was crispy while retaining its moisture in the potato 》$16
Served with chicken & onion gravy, signature baked potato and seasonal vegetables 》$17

I'm in a relationship with food. Why can't we just declare our never ending love and vows towards some food item? I'm sure that would not result in divorces.
