Burpple Beyond Deals
I couldnโt get enough of torched salmon with mentaiko sauce, and the ๐๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ถ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐บ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ป ($11.90) satiated my cravings. This was an excellent rice bowl, but compared to its Chirashi counterpart, it had to take a back seat.
Iโm already looking forward to my next visit to Kazoku. Wallet-friendly Japanese food is always a winner. With Burpple Beyond, you also get 1-for-1 donburi, so thereโs no reason not to come back.
Iโm always on the lookout for a good Chirashi Don, and the ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ธ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ ๐๐ผ๐ป ($29.90) blew me away. Thick slices of salmon, tuna, swordfish, scallops and octopus adorned the bowl of rice, topped with tiny orbs of ikura. It was simply perfect.
While the ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฟ๐น๐ผ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐บ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ๐บ๐ถ ($19.90) tasted good, it didnโt wow us like the other dishes.
I was sceptical of the ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ๐บ๐ถ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ผ ($13.90) at first, but the raw seafood drizzled with a sweet-spicy Thai chilli sauce was absolutely alluring.
The ๐๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ถ ๐๐ฏ๐ถ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐บ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฅ๐ผ๐น๐น ($15.90) was a showcase of classic Japanese food executed elegantly. The raw salmon slathered with mentaiko sauce, combined with fried prawn embedded in sushi rice, was flawless.
Best described as a food court with wait staff, ToGather Kitchen & Bar offers an eclectic mix of cuisines. One of the them is Kazoku Japanese Dining.
The ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ธ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ๐บ๐ถ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ฑ ($13.90) was a microcosm of what the eatery has to offer: fresh ingredients, thick cuts of raw seafood and immaculate flavours. This salad ticked every box there is, and more.
We also tried two burgers. The ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ ($16.90) fared better as the slab of chicken thigh was succulent. The ๐ฃ๐๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ ($17.90) was good, but not great, although the caramelised onions did make it more enjoyable. The shoestring fries that came with the burgers were addictively crispy.
Overall a pretty decent meal and I wouldn't mind returning to @embercharcoalgrill to try its other grilled items.

Ember Charcoal Grill specialises in grilled meats using binchotan charcoal. There were also a few Burpple deals available, such as 1-for-1 House Brew and 1-for-1 Croffle. But since we ordered three main courses, the 30% Off Total Bill deal was the most value-for-money.
The ๐ฆ๐ถ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐-๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ๐น๐ผ๐ถ๐ป ($25.90) was the star attraction on the menu. It came with a choice of two sides and a sauce. Even though the steak looked the part, with a beautiful pink centre, it was slightly overcooked and was tougher than expected. However the sides were sublime, while the Miso Kombu Butter added a depth of flavours. The Grilled Broccoli, with its crispy edges, was particularly praiseworthy.

Enjoying my 1-for-1 single scoops at Burnt Cones with Burpple Beyond. Although the ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฎ (milk) tasted very mild, the chocolate shavings gave it more oomph.
The eye-catching ๐จ๐ฏ๐ฒ (purple yam) was bolder, though it was a little too sweet. Overall the two flavours were satisfactory, but werenโt impressive. Do note that the premium flavours arenโt eligible for the Burpple deal.

1-for-1 Beverage: We liked the ๐๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ($6) for its fruity profile, while the smooth and robust ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ ๐ช๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฒ ($6.50) was very palatable.
We also tried one of the pastries, ๐ค๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ฐ ($6.50). Berries sitting on cream adorned a longish bun that boasted the crispy, flakey texture of a croissant. Not only did it look like royalty, it tasted exquisite too.
The pastries and coffees at @carpenterandcook impressed, and I'd return for them. Skip the minuscule mains.
Most cafes have two poached eggs and two muffins (or equivalent) in their Eggs Benedict dishes, but the ๐ฃ๐๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐๐ด๐ด๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ here has only one each. The palm-sized sandwich and widowed Eggs Benedict are definitely overpriced without the 1-for-1 deal.
Carpenter and Cook, whose owner trained at the prestigious Cordon Bleu in London, specialises in pastries which are baked in-house. We checked out some of the Burpple 1-for-1 deals on offer here.
1-for-1 Brunch: We felt the portions of both the ๐๐น๐๐ฏ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต ($25) and ๐ฃ๐๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐๐ด๐ด๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ($23) were really small. They tasted decent, but weren't worth writing home about.
