Want To Try!
Looking very nondescript in this rather old coffeeshop is the "Indo Pura Muslim Food" stall. But do not be distracted by appearance because their "ayam penyet" is a real gem.
Extreme crunch of skin plus supreme juiciness of meat is a must for any "ayam penyet" worth its salt, but making theirs extra Burpple-worthy is the chilli sambal. It's truly fragrant and lip-stingingly hot. Mix it into the fluffy white rice if you can take the spiciness. Ask the stall-owner uncle nicely and he might also throw in some extra terrible-for-you-but-terribly-delicious fried batter bits.
This really hip-looking cafe shows no trace of its past; probably the only thing that is obvious was the signboard that is retained from the previous tenant. It takes over an old coffeeshop that had started here ever since the estate was around, which also used to house a rather famed Prawn Noodle stall in here. Other items such as the artwork in the cafe featuring old calendars and a weighing scale in its toilet also gives a nod to the past. Despite so, the menu is rather western, featuring salads, all-day brunch and desserts as well as coffee made using the Throwback blend by Papa Pahelta. Go for the waffles if you are here; the Buttermilk is fragrant at its best even though its not even stated in the menu, and for those interested in savoury waffles they also serve them with Fried Chicken, which is also one of their specialties.
The chef sure knows how to coax all the prawn flavour out of the fresh-from-the-market prawns because this dish is packed with the powerful essence of the crustaceans. Cooked in olive oil with sweet baby tomatoes and chilli, the two plates we ordered for sharing, went down well with everyone at the table. All too swiftly, they were slurped up.
It's been three years since I last dined here, but I'm pleased to report that the crabmeat linguine here is still every bit as epic as I remember it to be. Ultra-creamy sauce with a hint of tomato stirred in and tossed with an abundance of crabmeat chunks.
Best dish of the night!
