Enjoy dining without burning a hole in your pocket, no membership required
Cute-as-a-button mini burgers filled with juicy pork belly, Japanese Saikyo miso and Granny Smith apple purée. These bar bites are a must-order but of course, greedy me wishes those yummeh pieces of pork belly can be upsized! 😁
When the cocktails are marvellous, the bar bites have a lot to live up to. I got to say, we were more than satisfied with what we had at Longplay.
Here are what we ordered (pictured clockwise from top left):
• Togarashi Squid: These were fresh and springy with a salty, spicy, crunchy house-made battered coating. I felt the mild Harissa dip was good but not absolutely necessary. There were others however, who couldn't have enough of it.
• Ground Angus Beef Meatballs: Recommended by the hospitable manager David, these babies were fall-apart tender! They arrived smothered in a thick, yummy tomato sauce with loads of aged Parmesan cheese grated all over.
• Buttermilk Chicken: There's definitely more chicken than batter here which is always a good thing. Personally, I preferred the tender, non-oily chunks with plenty of that non-spicy dip.
• Mac and Cheese: Made with three types of cheese, the torched surface of this dish added a nice chewiness to the otherwise smooth and mushy texture. It's pretty heavy, so I'd recommend having it last, after you've enjoyed the other items on the menu first.
To start with, I was drawn by the description in the menu. To end with, the drink that Jonathan concocted proved to be everything I hoped it'd be. Sweet but not sickly so, it carried a note of bananas in every sip.
Very much enjoying my night at LongPlay. Just being able to listen to vinyls all night long is already such a treat, what more coupled with great cocktails that aren't too fancy and really cater to almost everyone's taste. This drink is not for the faint-hearted; if you do not enjoy the strong herbal taste of fernet, stay away! If you do, like me, it's just great.
