Succulent chicken meat with tasty fried ngoh Hiang and tofu.

This heritage brand has a history stretching back to 1953, known for their generous set meal which is balanced and filling.
.
Their roast chicken is a stand out, bouncy springy tender juicy with meaty sweet savoury flavour. The fluffy rice, fragrant with garlic and chicken broth, has a lovely grainy sweet savoury flavour that complements.
.
The crunchy fresh kai-lan / Chinese broccoli picks up the salty savoury notes of the thick oyster sauce, while the braised egg lends an eggy sweet note.
.
The trinity of dipping sauces; dark sweet soy, chili, and crushed ginger, round out this satisfying meal, yum.

Perfection. One of the best we've tried. Crispy casing and silky inside.

I'm finally back after many years. Although this is in Balestier, the ambience is classy, with a classy feel to the food. We ordered poached and soy sauce chicken. Maybe my taste buds have improved, it's not as good. Thumbs down to the tiniest serving of chicken rice condiments I've ever encountered. Bok choy was poorly done.

$9 for this is considered very good price.
Enjoyed 4 different taste using the sauces.

Do you sometimes wake up and get a strong craving for a particular dish, and feel restless and distracted until you get your fix of it? I do. Most recently it was for chicken rice and since I knew I was going to be in the Balestier at midday to collect my order from #hunterskitchensg, I decided to kill two birds with one stone by putting in an order at @loykeebestchickenrice too. It had been too long since I last dined there.
Anyway, I was very satisfied with Loy Kee’s chicken rice. While the rice was tasty and didn’t clump, the steamed chicken was wonderfully tender and flavourful, even for the tricky breast section. The chilli sauce appealed very much to me because it’s spicy and possessed a sourness that’s fresh and fruity (which I’m guessing comes from limes rather than vinegar). No matter, it paired deliciously with the chicken and the rice and that’s what counts.
The extra items I ordered were good too. Plump-by-Singapore’s-standard, the beansprouts managed to remain quite crisp after I brought it home. And the “crystal” boneless chicken feet served in a light, tangy-sweet chilli sauce, something I hadn’t eaten in a long while, was enjoyable for its gelatinous crunch.

It’s value for money! 1/2 a chicken which give you the flexibility to mix between 2 type of chicken - roast and Hainanese white which I thought it was quite good that you get the best of both world for just $19? Portion is almost as good as 1 whole chicken for some other place. But texture of chicken wise was not as smooth and tender as some of the better ones which I find it a bit disappointing. The breast portion was a bit dry and rough and the thigh portion could be done smoother and softer. But minimally the chilli and ginger sauce was pretty good.

Loved how the saucer had 3 compartments so that I can put my fav chilli, ginger and black sauce! The black sauce was rather fragrant and chilli but the chilli was disappointing, with the lack of chilli taste. We ordered the set for 2, and gizzard. Gizzard was rather tasteless due to the bland sauce so we were rather disappointed. Steamed and roasted chicken tasted okay, though the meat given were rather little.
We were ratherr disappointed with the taste ☹️

Their rice actually tasted better than their chicken (Half for $15). The chicken was a little overcooked but it's soy gravy made up for it. We completed the dinner with watercress soup , deep fried tou fu and Chinese cabbage ($8 each).

Overall the food was okay but the air conditioning made us want to stay longer.

This is the safest food to have when you don't know what to eat. Sure delicious sure satisfying... Chicken rice in Singapore won't go wrong. But with a price to pay - expanded waistline lol! 😆

Hawker food for two consecutive days. I'm on a roll!

Unfortunately, after having had Tong Fong Fatt at Golden Shoe where the chicken is remarkably tender and slippery, the chook here seemed far drier and tougher in comparison.

One of the other chicken rice that I grew up eating. The different between loy kee and boon tong kee is that the rice is oiler and the chicken is less fragrant. But one of their plus point is the ginger and the cabbage soup. Though the cabbage soup is a lot saltier nowadays. Overall, $7 per set is quite a good deal, though I would choose Boon tong kee's $4.80 set anytime over this.

Probably not the best in town (as name suggests) but pretty good.
