Mad for Garlic is Korea’s first garlic-themed Italian restaurant. The unique concept made its debut in 2001 through Mad for Garlic’s first restaurant in Apgujeong-dong, an affluent entertainment and residential district in southern Seoul. With its unique and innovative menu with garlic-specialized Italian cuisine and an excellent selection of wines, Mad for Garlic soon became one of Korea's most popular restaurant chains. Rather than having a central kitchen system, at Mad for Garlic, the entire cooking process starts with raw materials in the kitchen of each branch to bring fresh food to the table. In 2013, Mad for Garlic was voted by Korea Times and Korea Herald as the Best Performing Italian Restaurant concept in Korea. Currently, there are 40 branches in Korea, two branches in Hong Kong and one in Singapore.

I have to say, this might not be the most ideal place for the first date. The food is strong with garlic which might affect your breath.

Nonetheless, food is good! Sadly you can't mix the pizza with pasta for the Burpple Beyond deal.

We ordered the Garlic Lasagna ($24), and Garlic Ragu Fettuccine ($26).
Garlic Lasagna: sauces and cheese were a perfect blend with tons of garlic. However, the cucumbers and eggplant were an interesting mix that did not quite fit our usual lasagna tastebuds. Without it, perhaps, it would’ve been perfect for us.
Garlic Ragu Fettucine: absolutely delicious with a perfect mix of garlic, tomato base and beef cubes. Though beef cubes were slightly tough to bite through, the pasta tasted pretty bomb as a whole. This was our favourite dish!

Food is great, but it is slightly on the pricier end. The bill still comes out to be about $30++ for two. If you’re a huge fan of garlic, however, this will satisfy your tastebuds!

The Crab and Lobster pasta tasted pretty normal because its a little too creamy for me, but this Sea Bass pasta is dabomb!! Will come back again it there's still promotion 😂

Despite the name, this didn’t taste very garlicky, even with the bits of fried garlic on top and the use of garlic cream sauce according to the menu’s description. There’s slices of garlic and bacon inside, but overall the dish tasted mostly of cream and was quite textually boring. Tasted very jelat and didn’t have a lot going for it apart from the fact that the pasta wasn’t overcooked. Would go for their other pastas instead!

This pasta was pretty delicious! Although the fettuccine was quite skinny and resembled linguine more, it was cooked al dente and I enjoyed the ragu. It tasted a lot like a cheesy bolognese, with a few steak cubes inside that didn’t add much for me, and a few cloves of pickled garlic. Didn’t taste very garlicky like the restaurant’s theme, and not exactly what I expected when reading the menu’s description, but it still turned out tasty. They only serve bottled water here though, which is a pet peeve of mine.

Not only is it a glossy feast for the eyes, it is also a quintessential favourite for some.
Chicken and mushroom have always been one of my favourite combinations, as they pair wonderfully together. Hence, when I saw that they offered this dish at Mad for Garlic, I knew that I had to try it out. This hearty entrée possessed a velvety creaminess from the stock, and earthy essence from the mushrooms. Crispy at the edges, the chicken thigh fillet was perfectly grilled to give a nice golden glaze.
It was pretty spicy as there was Jalapeño infused in the risotto. Personally, I felt that the spiciness could have been toned down to make it less numbing, as the attention was diverted away from the true flavours of the dish. I also expected the garlic taste to be more prominent.
Notably, the other pasta dishes are prettyyy spicy. Do take note of the spiciness level before ordering any of them!
