Reviews

From the Burpple community

I was super excited about this place after reading all the great reviews. Sadly not everything you see on the Internet is to be believed. This white bee hoon in particular was super bland. The prawns were big and fresh though. Other let downs were the oyster omelette--while the oysters were big and juicy, the omelette itself was fried within an inch of its life and was dry. The olive and mince meat fried rice, seafood char kway teow and Ngoh hiang were decent.

The icing on this bad cake was when we asked for a cup of hot water to warm up my child's milk in. We were charged 50cents. Definitely not coming back here any time soon.

Intrigued by the size of the tiger prawns in their Beehoon dish, we ordered their garlic prawns that came with a generous 8 huge tiger prawns for under $20. Fresh and big, it was really a good deal for the price. The garlic accentuated the taste of the prawn; although it might not appeal to all.
Their fried oyster omelette did live up to the reviews we read, with plump oysters. Similar to their white beehoon, their braised pork trotter Beehoon was a comfort-food dish with that home-cooked flavour. It was good that the Beehoon wasn’t oily nor too salty like some others.
So to get away from the bustling restaurants in Orchard, Maddie’s may be a good option for some simple 1-person meal or for a small group.

Seafood White Beehoon (Prawns & Lala $6.80-S) was decent, ingredients were fresh and there were bits of crisp fried lard. Portion seemed to be rather huge (possibly enough for 2 small eaters if you’re planning to get side dishes?). Enjoyed the french bean with minced pork ($8.80) because the dried shrimps (?) made it so darn fragrant.
Lor bak ($4) was also flavourfully braised and tender while proportion of egg vs starch of the oyster omelette ($10.80) was just right with very crisp sides. We don’t eat oysters (I KNOW), but they kindly changed to 2 giant prawns for us! There’s also prawn omelette on the menu but if I’m not wrong, it doesn’t have the starchy portion thus I tried my luck with the request😂. The accompanying chilli was shiok too! Bet the oyster version would have been fantastic.

The seafood soup was comfortingly tasty, though not as savoury as the other seafood soup that opened in Far East Plaza too - but I liked how sweet and clean tasting this was. There were mock abalone, fish maw, lala, crunchy prawns, fish slices, meatballs and vegetables, etc.

Portions of the dishes we ordered was pretty good for the price and of quality, fresh ingredients. Will be back to try the hainanese curry rice too.
