At $3.70, I guess this was decent, but I was disappointed. My friends loved it and hyped it up but that's not the only reason why I was disappointed. I always order dosa every time I go to any Indian restaurant anywhere, so I do consider myself a connoisseur haha! The dosa could have been crispier. The sambar was dull...it was basically like daal. The red chutney, which most restaurants are able to do well, was a huge disappointment as it tasted rather bland. I usually never eat the white coconut chutney. Don't like it. But this one was rather spicy, so I didn't mind it. Also, I had not choice but to like it as the other things were rather dull. I'd say Komalas Restaurant is better. And a lot of others, too.

They served one each first and then brought the other appam. So don't worry, the set does have 2! Nice and crispy on the outside and light and fluffy in the middle with delicious light coconut cream. That middle part tasted good enough by itself because of the cream. Nevertheless, it tasted great dipped in the coconut milk and the sugar! The set comes at $5! Pretty filling and worth it.

All 3 dishes were delicious especially when washed down with a cool cup of coke and a pipping hot filter coffee! This was my first time trying this restaurant. The dosa was crispy, fluffy and yummy. The chutneys and sambhar were excellent! For all of the mentioned items, my friend and I spent $20.40 and it was perfect.

One of a few places that serves this type of Appam fresh in SG. Appam, is a hot pancake made with fermented rice & coconut milk. The Appam set $5 comes with orange jaggery sugar & coconut milk. Word has it that orange jaggery sugar is only available in SG. Sprinkle the jaggery sugar and dip the pancake into coconut milk to enjoy this local delight.😺
.
Appam tastes slightly creamy & sweet. Not so many snacks that you can control how sweet you like while you eat! πŸ€˜πŸ€— Reserve this for our chai tea party next time! β˜•οΈπŸ‘Œ

While the vadai here has got me missing MTR's most amazing vadai texture and refined flavours, i do like the crunch of green chilli and tomato chutney. A slight tinge of regret but well, it's tea and MTR is closed till 5.30pm.

Tucked away on Upper Dickson Road, away from the main street's bustle, Madras New Woodlands is a nondescript joint serving up humble vegetarian South Indian fare. The two-page menu is compact and simple, and the selection familiar enough to not put you off β€” expect the usual suspects like dosa (otherwise known as thosai), idly (steamed rice cakes) and samosas, among other light snacks perfect for a mid-afternoon break. What we really like though is the Appam Set ($4.80). Made from a batter of fermented rice and coconut milk, Madras New Woodlands' rendition of the pancake is spot-on β€” brown and crisp around the edges, yet fluffy and slightly moist in the middle, and so delicious dipped in coconut milk and orange sugar. Pair this with their aromatic Madras Coffee ($1.90 for small/ $2.70 for large). Pro-tip: The milky filtered coffee is often served scalding hot, so cool it down for drinking by pouring a third into the shorter, wider metal cup.
Avg Price: $10 per person
