Hence the Yong Tau Foo Soup ($3.80) is what I will go for. As for the ingredients, I enjoy both the non-fried and fried beancurd with fish paste, as well as the brinjal and bitterguord. The sliced carrots in the fish paste stood out in most of the ingredients, adding texture and sweetness to the well seasoned stuffing. Both the brinjal and bittergourd could be better if they were of thicker slices. One could appreciate the fish paste more as the ingredients tend to shrink and get abit oily when fried.

Beware! Every since I have tasted this handmade Hakka YTF, it has became a ritual to visit this stall to whenever my craving for YTF kicks in.

Every piece of their YTF is cooked to perfection where you can taste the freshness of the paste, prepared with pork, fish and carrot slices(for the sapid taste) flanked with the various types of vegetables such as bittergourd, chili to bean curd skin. To add on to the charm, they have specially prepared their own chili and sweet sauce to complement the already delectable YTFs.

I understand from the owners that they prepared almost everything from scratch from the YTFs to the sauces, it is not hard to guess why the food is always sold slightly after lunch.

The chilli and sweet sauce go naturally well with chee cheong fun and when served alongside with other ingredients. This bowl of 'chunky' ingredients of different textures and bites is quite satisfying to eat. I would imagine for somebody who often have chee cheong fun as breakfast or snack, this is a perfect combination for a brunch. And for such a hearty bowl, it is only $4.

Tried Maxwell Hakka Handmade Yong Tau Foo ($5.40 for 9 pieces) at Maxwell Food Centre and this is potentially my new favourite YTF stall around the area😃! The ingredients are fresh and large, and the fish paste filling is mixed with minced meat for that extra oomph. I love the fried bitter gourd, eggplant and beancurd skin😍 The chilli has just the right amount of spiciness and sweetness, and each bowl is drizzled with dark soy sauce for that extra flavour. I’ve tried similar Hakka YTF in the area that is more more expensive and the ingredients are much smaller, so this stall is a gem for me:)!

Had a brief chat with the young boss and came to know that all the ingredients are prepared fresh and handmade everyday! Quite surprising for a young hawker, hope he is able to maintain this mindset. Kudos!

New kid on the block at Maxwell Food Centre. Young and friendly owner. One of the better YTFs around the area. Good and affordable [$3.80 for 5 pcs + noodles] but can be a little packed during the lunch crowd. Will be back for my ytf fix!
