Hojicha McFlurry ($3.30)

tried first time but McFlurry just melted :"( so I decided to try it on last time before they moved to new flavour.

The average watermelon contains about as much actual mango as @mcdsg mango pie does, but thereā€™s no denying how inexplicably addictive this pie is. The saccharine sweet mango syrup filling is fortified texturally with charmingly chewy nata de coco bits, and it definitely gets that sweet tooth amply satisfied.

The main reason why almost every single McDonaldā€™s pie is a banger is due to that fabulously flaky & compellingly crispy pastry shell. Seriously, can anyone who has more baking experience than I do tell me how that crisp, flaky pastry is made? It ainā€™t hard to have more baking experience than me, the only thing I ever baked was myself (dude weed lmao). Baked or not, I definitely want to stick my fingers around (not into) every single one of these pies.

I donā€™t remember @mcdsg having a Christmas special in years past, but the Angus Mushroom Supreme Special ($10.50) sounded too good to pass up. I mean, it literally has SušŸ…±ļøreme in the name.ā €

Hold your horses folks, it may be bougie, but itā€™s McDonalds bougie. The standard Angus beef patty thatā€™s deployed on the Angus burger line is also here, but itā€™s smeared with a smattering of herb aioli, a multiplicity of mushrooms crammed in between the buns, a little dollop of caramelised onions and a couple of leaves of lettuce. Gotta get your daily dose of fibre in somehow, no? ā €
ā €
The soft rolls utilised as burger buns here were rather decent for maccas, and as expected, the Angus beef patty was dry & overdone. That deficit was made measurably worse due to the distressing lack of delicious & lubricious herb aioli. Seriously, itā€™s not that hard to be a tad more heavy handed with the sauces, people. In the (often memed) words of Joe Biden, cā€™mon man!ā €

Well, at least the button mushrooms and caramelised onions managed to scrape salvation at the last second for this burger. They were both excellently sautĆ©ed, and their earthy, sweet & unctuous qualities really ameliorated the mediocre patty of what is supposed to be Angus beef. I'm not gonna lie folks, if the Mushroom SušŸ…±ļøreme came with a more charitable dollop of herb aioli and a less overcooked beef patty, I'd gladly chow down on it again.ā €

Well, on a happier note, Mickey D's brought their potato wedges back! These are surprisingly sumptuous, but the real OGs will know that KFC did it first way back when.

Filled with tropical flavours of mango and addictive bits of nata de coco within

@mcdsg seem to be starting a fried chicken side hustle with the permanent fixture of the McCrispy (aka the McShitty because of what it does to your bowels), and now the unexpected collab with @benyeo23. The Hainanese Chicken Burger is a half truth, as itā€™s a deep fried chicken fillet as opposed to the poached chicken that defines Hainanese chicken, but it definitely is a burger.ā €
ā €
As you may have already guessed, the chicken did not make this burger. Itā€™s still greatly gratifying though, as itā€™s juicy, meaty and decently deep fried, and you have to be trolling to make fried chicken bad. No, the sauces were the reason why McDonaldā€™s had the guts to even call this a Hainanese chicken burger. The gloriously garlicky chili was mildly spicy but possessed no less flavoursome fabulousness than the best chicken rice chilies out there. ā €
ā €
The ginger paste/sauce was insanely gingery, and has probably been robbed from an actual chicken rice stall. I refuse to believe that Mickey Dā€™s can actually whip up a ginger sauce that can beat many chicken rice hawkers out there. Ainā€™t no way, ainā€™t no fuckinā€™ way. And of course, the extra touch of dark, slightly sweet soy sauce on top really seals the deal & turns this burger into a legit tasting Hainanese Chicken experience. Oh, and these waffle fries? Absolute potato perfection. Potatoes aspire to become these waffle fries when they grow up, trust me.ā €
ā €
The semolina flour dusted buns were tastefully toasted & fluffy, and the veg was a little out of place but not unwelcome. Pickled veg would definitely be the way to go, but you know what would REALLY turn this into a legit Hainanese Chicken experience? Chicken rice burger buns, son, thatā€™s how. As a matter of fact, it would then morph into the gone but definitely not forgotten pinnacle of culinary art that are the Fan-tastic burgers. Strap in kids, itā€™s time for more Fan-tastic burger propaganda.ā €
ā €
@mcdsg bring back the Fan-tastic burgers already before I be wilā€™in in your stores. Itā€™s the only good thing you guys have come up with since the Samurai burger. And the McGriddles. And these waffle fries. Run the Fan-tastic burgers back again, right god damn now.

it was so hyped up and everyone said it was good so i felt like i had to try it at least once before they disappeared (damn marketing strategies). i felt like itā€™s overhyped tbh... like ok the crust was nice, but it tasted too fried & oily, & the chocolate filling tasted like artificial chocolate cream? this pie reminded me that i was eating from mcdonalds so i cant expect much lol. while it was not 100% inedible, i wouldnā€™t have this again. šŸ˜Ÿ
