Traditional blended yam infused with rock sugar, topped with ginkgo nut. A dessert you would normally see in Chinese wedding. A comforting thick, gooey and sweet yam paste for all ages.

Ordered the ah balling, mango sago, coconut pudding and red bean longan. Simple traditional Chinese dessert!

Memories of hong Kong flashback after each bite of this.

Really reminds me of Yee Shun Milk pudding near the place I stayed at Yau Ma Tei

Went to Mei Heong Yuen and ordered their tangyuan ($3.50) ahead of the Winter Solstice Festival.

Pleasantly surprised by how the ginger soup was full of flavor; sweet and spicy with a strong ginger taste. The glutinous rice balls / tangyuan on the other hand were alright, was rather over cooked but the peanut filling ones matched the ginger soup better than the sesame ones.

My weird combination of food for a meal at Mei Heong Yuen Desserts! I recall eating the 3-colour cakes (essential yam cake, carrot cake and pumpkin cake) at the chinatown branch years ago and I remembered that I was so unsatisfied with it because it was cold and not appetising. But this time round, it was served pipping hot and I enjoyed it so much! (Maybe also because I was famished haha) amongst the 3 I liked the pumpkin cake the most! Followed by the yam cake and then the carrot cake. It went well with both the sambal chilli and the sour spicy chilli (self service the second chilli from the counter). End off this meal with a mango roll ($3.5), something that I have eyed for a long time but always can't bear to pay $3.5. essentially a coconut jelly wrapped around fresh mango slices. Thumbs up for this meal!!

Mango snow ice was nice & the mango taste really came thru, but it’s not spectacular. We also felt that they could be more generous w the mangos bc there were only like 6 small pieces??? But this dessert wasn’t as sweet as we expected, which is a good thing! There is always a queue, so do come early (not sure if it’s worth queuing for but I guess it’s a good place to visit if you’re really craving for snow ice) 🤗
