Compared to their wanton noodles, I’m more a fan o Mei Yuen’s roasted duck noodles. The duck meat was beautifully roasted with a nice braised flavour, and the duck meat was tender to my liking. The springy egg noodles were doused in a savoury sauce (dark sauce based) which made every mouthful feel like goodness.

Springy wanton noodles at a traditional coffee shop located along Katong. This wanton mee was pretty decent, with a good amount of flavour in every element - the char siew, wantons, and white sauce.

Here, they don’t serve any fanciful kind of cuisine, just an honest plate of roast meats and wantons with rice or noodles. Definitely not the best that I’ve tasted and surely not the cheapest at $6 for this plate of wanton noodles with char siew and roasted pork but with all the older folks sitting around me clearly enjoying their food, the people helming this restaurant is clearly doing something right. Is it the familiar taste, springy egg noodles or nicely roasted meats? It might be a combination of all of these that makes it work.

Another great wanton mee stall. Located along east coast road. This place have a very old school feel. Like back in the 80s.

Food is also good. The chilli sauce in the wanton mee was damn spicy.

The char siew and the roasted pork did not dissappoint.

Another good wanton mee place found. The style here is the old school kind; with the springy noodles, homemade char siew and the excellent wantons. A hidden gem in the Katong area!

Sure the char siu might not have the sheen of fat and the vegetables given are kinda paltry but the star is the noodles and the chilli. Expertly cooked with the right amount of bite, its super slurp-worthy and is the perfect partner to their fiery chilli sauce. Definitely a must-try especially if you’re in the katong area.

βš–οΈ: A definite place worth checking out. Make sure you get their roast pork belly. I’m still dreaming about the crackling.
