From the Burpple community

The choc souffle was not bad, top was crusted and inside was fluffy and slightly wet

The Hokkaido milk gelato was superb. If it were a tad less icy it would have been perfect but as it was, the flavour was bomb already and worked very well

Deserving of the rave, partner said it's significantly better than hoshino's

Yes, the onion flavour was strong in the clean tasting pork. The rice was not mindblowing like I rmbed, it's less sticky as well. I had it previously taken away so I guess when it's cold the flavour might be better?

Overall not too bad but not super impressed anyway. Dining partner still thought that the rice was flavourful tho

The pork chop was alright, it's quite lean so this tenderness was somewhat impressive alr. Their teriyaki sauce is pretty good tho not an authentic one

Tomato was firm, the risotto was interesting cos it's bright tasting despite the mushroom base. Tomato sauce was bright too

Overall they have other more impressive stuff, this was above average only

Squid ink pasta was fine, well cooked but didn't taste like too much. The miso glaze was good but it's just a glaze, it was kind of washed off the squid when you mix everything together, at least the smokiness still stayed. Texture was quite fine, that's some skill in grilling the squid. Cream sauce was good too

However a well executed plate and innovative too but somehow didn't feel like it deserved it's price tag

This Japanese fusion food cafe at Westgate closed for some time and reopened on second floor. I love their pasta, soufflés pancakes and donburi so I decided to visit again.

Entering the cafe, I immediately felt reassured when I saw familiar faces, staff who worked at their previous ground floor location. But it was most disappointing to hear the manager tell us this and this and that item is not available due to sold out. I mean literally 10% of the items are not available. Seems there has been some supply chain hiccups. I wonder if this is due to recent rise in COVID cases?

Anyway I ordered their Beef and Foie Gras Donburi. The beef was seared just right and the foie gras melts in your mouth. $29.90 a bowl is not cheap but worth the money cause you get a big slab of beef, foie gras and sous vide egg. The sweet sauce on the rice goes well with the umami from the beef. I’ve you mix the egg into the rice, the taste goes up one more notch.

I must come back, if just to eat those items not available during this visit. Absence makes the mind grow fonder.

Ends in march, so better hurry up

Miam miam is the most awesome french Jap casual restaurant, I challenge anyone to find a worthy rival!

This bowl lived up to expectations as well. Teriyaki and char siew fusion really made sense when you think about it. Using premium pork, they achieved a superbly tender texture that's so enjoyable. Don't think of this as a Jap charsiu don, rather, it's like a good plate of hawker charsiu rice executed proficiently with premium ingredients, and it does justice to every aspect it took inspiration from. Miam miam got this way of bringing across light flavours in the most addictive and satisfying way. No idea how they do it but I'll probably continue supporting them, it's a blessing to have a branch in the west!
