If dry noodle dishes like kolo mee and wanton noodles excite your taste buds, give the lesser known Kampua noodles a chance at this cosy joint in Aman Suria! The dish is done two ways at Mian, one of which is the owner's hometown-inspired Black that features the wavy, Foo Chow-style noodles doused in a dark sauce. For Kampua noodle purists, there is the White that offers a lighter, nuttier profile that pays homage to the Fujian recipe. We especially like the texture of their noodles sourced fresh from Sitiawan, slightly thick and pleasantly sticky with flavour. Tastemaker Kaelyn Pu also advocates for their fascinating pickled garlic condiment, which really helps to augment flavours! From RM7.90 a portion, plus the no-brainer option to add their caramelised, oven-baked Char Siew from RM1, this easily clocks your meal in under RM10.

Kampua Mee | Black of white? Try both then. We have a choice of black or white Kampua, served with char siu or village chicken, plus a bowl of wonton soup.

I personally prefer white, coz the soy sauce taste for black Kampua kind of too strong for me. Something special from them is their pickled garlic. Add it in the noodle and it will be more appetising.
Price range for noodle is from RM7.90-RM8.90

Located in the midst of many hawker centres, Mian manages to outshine its more traditional counterparts when it comes to noodles. The small, simple establishment prides itself on two interpretations of Kampua Noodles (from RM6.90) — black is improved from local Sitiawan's recipe whereas white is inspired by the original Fujian dish. Unlike the Sarawakian version, these noodles are thicker, offering more chew in every bite. Go with black if you lean towards savoury flavours, but the lighter variant wins us over with its refreshing taste of sweet nuttiness. Both come with a bowl of wantons and options to add char siew or steamed chicken for only RM1 — this is not the time to scrimp! When here for lunch, juice up on their Vietnamese Drip Coffee (RM5) to shoot back to the office with renewed energy.

It's all good things at Mian. White (from RM6.90) is their rendition of Fujian's authentic Kampua noodles that comes with gleaming char siew or steamed chicken for just another RM1. The use of nuts in the sauce lends a sweetness that the Kampua noodles we're used to do not have. If you like your mian savoury, go with Black, the Sitiawan version that's more popular with KL tastebuds. Out of nowhere appears an option for Vietnamese Coffee (RM5) and it's surprisingly good!
