This tartine was more complex; it offers hummus, beetroot cubes, radish slices, half an avocado and pumpkin seeds over sourdough toast. Although the variety of ingredients kept each bite fresh and exciting as I had the freedom to mix and match different combinations, I felt that somehow all the ingredients were quite flat with no strong tasting element as the main stand-out piece to gel everything together. Might give this a miss and definitely go for the ricotta if you had to choose one thing to get here!

The idea of this was simple: a thick decadent layer of ricotta with blistered cherry tomatoes and baby spinach leaves atop a slice of sourdough. But somehow, this whole combination was executed so well!! The sourdough was undoubtedly good as it was chewy in the centre with a crunchy toasted crust. However, I was most impressed by the ricotta which was creamy smooth yet still light and not cloying. This is a MUST ORDER while you’re here! 👍🏼

I ordered an iced mocha at Micro Bakery and Kitchen, as I always do at cafes. It was a great accompaniment to the Parmesan Scone but also, I felt it was very strong and robust in flavour – definitely perked me up. Not as chocolatey as I imagined or hoped, but still a decently refreshing iced mocha!

Verdict: 7.5/10

Finally made my way down to Micro Bakery and Kitchen at Bukit Timah and I already planned a day of eating, so I chose a smaller bite to accompany some early morning coffee. Got the Parmesan Scallion Scone and even though I don’t naturally gravitate towards scones I really do like this one – it’s not as dry, though still quite crumbly, as other scones and is super buttery and the parmesan was a great addition!

Definitely coming back for their tartines and toasts!!

Verdict: 7.5/10

Scrambled eggs, furikake, snow peas, asparagus on sourdough.

The scrambled eggs is actually incredibly bland. It needs salt and pepper, desperately. Kind of taste like unseasoned scrambled eggs from
McDonald’s - not creamy at all.

The snow peas and asparagus taste like unseasoned snow peas and asparagus but I ate my greens dutifully.

This is one of their most popular plates so I’m surprised how meh it was. Maybe it’s an off day. I will stick to their other delicious items next time.

The cinnamon roll is more on the thick and dense side and the cinnamon were sprinkled just enough to give hints of cinnamon but not until it overpowers everything. I will have it for a slightly heavier pastries breakfast. Flat white [$5] is quite strong, not acidic and the nutty notes, which I am a fan of, came through strongly and nicely. The two complement each other really well. With the current safe-distancing measures and the rain when I visited they operate about three tables on the walkway, which can be crowded from the neighboring cafés, restaurants, fast food joint and services, therefore I recommend takeaways unless you love people walking around you most of the time.
