Venturing farther than my comfort zone and good to know there are interesting cafes in Taman Melawati that serves good coffee and yummy looking food

Will try their burgers next round

While on the milkier side, Mikro’s flat white is done well. Silky frothed milk + well-pulled espresso from Aitch Coffee Roasters’ El Salvadorian beans.

Yum. I often avoid espresso-based black when it’s piping-hot, mostly cos that’s also when it’s the most bitter. This, however, was extremely pleasant even at the start. Its tart acidity blends really well with a touch of bitterness for an easy-drinking cuppa.

Dubbed their house favourite for breakfast, the Oliver James is a strange fellow. The dish features beef bacon and scramble on pancake stacked with sourdough, then topped with a drizzle of maple syrup. The sweet-savoury flavours kind of work, but the pancake-sourdough combo was somewhat boggling. Also found the beef bacon a tad tough. Not making it to my list of cafe fare, but Mikro wins me over with awesome coffee, nice vibes and good, friendly service too.

Will be back to give their mains a chance — the lamb meatballs look super promising!

Exactly what you’d expect from a good Arrabbiata. Mikro’s Arrabbiata (RM18) is a hearty dish of spaghetti, sautéed in a deceptively spicy tomato sauce with cherry tomatoes and fried aubergines. You can choose between having your pasta with chicken or beef.

The Oliver James (RM18) is an homage to a dish once served by the late Grumpy Cyclist in TTDI. The towering stack starts with a slice of sourdough toast, followed by a super thick pancake, fluffy scrambled eggs, and then crowned with a generous helping of beef bacon. Top all that off with a drizzle of maple syrup and toasted nuts, and there you have it: The most decadent, sweet-savoury brunch dish that ever existed. Kudos to the team at Mikro for preserving this classic!
