Famous nyona kuih shop tucked away in a nondescript alley. You can find a variety of nyona snacks here and my favourites were the kuih talam, pulut inti and kuih bengka ubi.

From RM0.50 per piece | You don’t get to see blocks of kueh kueh in front of you every day!

The stand-outs were the 1) #nyonyachang (3.5RM) which was small but real tasty & packed with meat & mushroom; 2) pulut tai tai (0.60RM) which was sticky purple rice with very flavorful kaya; 3) abuk abuk (3RM) which was soft and filled with tasty coconut without being overly sweet

Nasi lemak is a traditional Malay rice dish, cooked in coconut milk and pandan (screwpine) leaves, traditionally served with a side of boiled egg, sambal, peanuts, anchovies and cucumber. Nyonya nasi lemak is a variety found in Penang and Malacca, prepared by the baba and nyonya, also known as the Peranakan.

The nyonya nasi lemak here is served with a fried fish and asam (tamarind) prawns over a rich coconut rice. The rice has a subtle and fragrant flavour, fluffy and almost silky. The richness of the rice is quite a rare find in itself. The fried fish was crispy and the asam prawns were outstanding, intense sweetness from the sea with a nice tamarind kick. Eat wth shells on to fully absorb the flavours. The sambal also had a nice belacan kick, with every component bringing the dish together in harmony. Simple and unadulterated goodness. One of the best nasi lemak you can find, a must visit when in Penang.

If you've been following our foodgazy adventures this past weekend, Foodgae no. 2 returned to the melting pot that is his hometown of Penang to indulge in all manner of hedonistic gluttony. Also by melting pot, I mean bone crushing heat and humidity.
.
An institution in Georgetown, Moh Teng Pheow have been making the finest Nyonya kuih (sweet treats and cakes) since my grandparents were around, bless 'em. Great to see their evolution from kuih maker to having an adjoining cafe to make the best out of good old Capitalism. Truly some of the best gooey treats you'll ever put in your mouth (pause).
.
As always, we have more to come in the pipeline and unlike Donald Trump, we know better than to upset our loyal band of followers with (too much) bluster. Have a nice weekend. Make Overindulgence Great Again!
