I had to visit this 85-year-old establishment before it succumbed to Covid-19. I'm featuring this bowl of chicken rice and chicken rice chilli because they told us chicken rice was sold out but then served to us chicken, rice and chilli (?!). Also because the rice turned out fragrant and the chilli was damn good, so they deserve a post as much as the chicken.

I had to visit this 85-year-old establishment before it succumbed to Covid-19. Not sure what this apparent signature dish is. It's 99% like Hokkien mee. That means alkaline noodles. But the ingredients were quite premium.

I had to visit this 85-year-old establishment before it succumbed to Covid-19. What's unique about their version of Hainanese pork chop is an onion gravy instead of ketchup. It's very tasty and I wished there's more. The cutlet itself was also among the better ones around - thick, crunchy, tasty.

I had to visit this 85-year-old establishment before it succumbed to Covid-19. This chicken was poached very well based on the skin and the flesh. It's not memorable, but that's not to say it's not good.

Weirdly located beside the hotel lobby of Village Hotel Bugis, this restaurant dates back to 1935 and the interior design really transports you back in time the moment you enter. Every dish was yummy, but would especially come back for the tender crispy Hainanese Pork Cutlet, seated in a bed of brown sauce that had hints of cinnamon (tomato sauce option available for the even more old school fans). Pairs really well with the thick n rich Chicken Curry too 👍🏻

Hainanese Pork Chop does not come the familiar tomato-based sauce but a French style brown gravy made from a recipe passed down by the owner.
