Mouth Restaurant (Maxwell)

990 Wishlisted
~$30/pax
Established in 1989, we began in a teahouse that served fresh handmade dim sum and Cantonese fare to Singaporeā€™s Hong Kong expatriate community: 30 years on, the teahouse has transformed into a family friendly restaurant that has remained resolute in its interpretations of Cantonese cooking. Now an all-inclusive Chinese restaurant, we offer affordably priced innovative dim sum, in a family friendly environment. To sample Mouth Restaurantā€™s signature flavours, diners should go with the Baked Suckling Pig, Peking Duck, Roast Goose & Squid Ink Char Siew Bun. Mouthā€™s Liu Sha Bao has also made waves among the local foodie community - its custard buns have been recognised by Epicure Food Magazine and Lifestyle Asia, as one of the Singaporeā€™s Best. In 2014, the restaurant was rated as one of the top 23 dim sum restaurants in Singapore. In 2018, it was voted one of the top Chinese Restaurants in Singapore.

This was quite yummy! The liushabao is baked, so it has that sweet, slightly crisp crust (like the ones from timhowan & canton paradise). The liusha filling is molten and threatens to spill out with each bite, and the consistency & flavour was quite nice to me - itā€™s sweet and buttery and thick and slightly grainy (I am partial to both grainy / smooth liushas). Itā€™s a bit big, and a tad sweet bc of the top sugar crust, but itā€™s good and I would order this again!

Family gatherings call for dim sum feasts at this classic spot along Maxwell Road. Boasting an extensive menu with over 100 items to pick from, you'll be spoilt for choice here. Pork lovers, don't hesitate on the intensely umami and porky Spicy Congee in Mixed Treasures ($10) or the juicy and crispy Roasted Pork ($16). If you're a fan of salted egg yolk, the signature Salted Egg Yolk Bun ($5.80) with a perfectly savoury-sweet filling is a must-get.

The standout item here is the salted egg yolk custard bun ęµę²™åŒ…ć€‚the rest of the items are more run of the mill stuff.

This was the starter for burpple set menu, it was pathetic and so expensive and appalling. I advice people never to purchase the overpriced set menu which was extremely disappointing.

On the pricier side but definitely sufficient to satisfy ur dimsum cravings. Siewmai and custard buns were great. They didnā€™t let me use #burpplebeyond ytd claiming it is cny period..

One more photo because you really gotta see how these babies look on the inside. I struggled so hard to take this photo as the molten salted egg lava was threatening to spill over anytime!! It requires some self control to not immediately lunge at this when it just arrives at your table but itā€™ll certainly pay off because you donā€™t wanna burn your tongue with the EXPLODING liu sha (yes, not exaggerating, it really explodes) šŸ˜‚
