Mui Kee Congee

519 Wishlisted
~$15/pax
Behind every bowl of Mui Kee congee lies a heritage as rich as its flavour. Its humble origins date back to 1979 where founder Mak Mui opened Mui Kee in a small corner stall in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. Today, Mui Kee Congee is helmed by her grandson, Ah Tung. Using recipes and cooking techniques which have been passed down through three generations, every scoop of silky smooth congee is filled with old school ingenuity.

Finally get to try the legendary wok hei congee. It didn’t disappoint me, it’s really wok hei gao gao. Very smooth, the fish slices are fresh.

Not your usual starchy tasteless congee. The flavours were subtly sweet but flavourful enough.

Generous bowl of porridge with huge slices of fish. And surprisingly it had wok hey flavour in it!

Most people recommend the Parrot Fish porridge which is nice in its own right but I didn't like the actual fish that much with bones in it. We splurged on the Alaskan crab porridge whereby the crab legs were really sweet and the porridge full of the seafood-y goodness! Also the pork liver was amazingly cooked whereby the texture was perfect and very well seasoned😋😋

Pork Liver with Ginger and Spring Onion, $15. Claypot dishes are only available during dinner time. This is one of their signature claypot dish and it’s definitely our favourite! We are a big fan of pork liver but it’s not easy to eat good ones out there as the texture and timing to cook are very crucial. Well seasoned and flavoured pork liver, fully infused with the fragrant dark sauce gravy! Texture is just perfect and we couldn’t stop eating piece after piece! Those spring onion and onions brings out even more flavours! This is a MUST order dish when you visit Mui Kee for dinner next time! .

Mui Kee is every bit as good as it’s made out to be. Their silky smooth congee is redolent with dragon’s breath, studded with generous chunks of charred, succulent fish and slices of crunchy, freshly fried dough fritters. Almost delicious enough to finish an entire bowl on your own, but the large portions are better shared so you can try more.
