Mui Kee Congee

547 Wishlisted
~$15/pax
Behind every bowl of Mui Kee congee lies a heritage as rich as its flavour. Its humble origins date back to 1979 where founder Mak Mui opened Mui Kee in a small corner stall in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. Today, Mui Kee Congee is helmed by her grandson, Ah Tung. Using recipes and cooking techniques which have been passed down through three generations, every scoop of silky smooth congee is filled with old school ingenuity.

The only place, as far as I know, that serves Wok-Hei flavoured Congee. Originating from Hongkong, this renowned chain expertly imparts the charred flavour whilst wok frying large chunks of fish into their congee broth, such a genius idea, I wonder why no one else does it. The YouTiao (dough fritters) are also a must-order item, takes a short while to get to your table, but comes out crisp and fresh fried every single time.
All their fish congees may contain bones, so please take extra caution if you’re bringing your children or older folks.
For a quick dining concept within a small space, their service was exemplary. Cheers to that @lesamisgroupsg!

The side dishes at this restaurant are either lousy (cheung fun) or very average, like this one. Eat if you must, but better to focus on the delicious congees, especially the smoky ones (eg. Alaskan crab or Parrot Fish belly).

Mui Kee needs a bigger space because it clearly has a strong following here in sg. Ordered the parrot fish porridge but it was unavailable but they replaced it with the grouper. The porridge is so different from other places because you could seriously taste the wok hei from the fish. The congee itself is not really like the crystal jade kind but it was still very fine and went well with the ingredients.

Another favourite of mine is featured here, the cheong fun with mixed mushrooms. Mushrooms add a great texture to the smooth CCF. Would definitely return to Mui Kee and I am very very keen to try the claypot items (only available for dinner).
